'04.5 (4 piston) brake problem - help please (pic request at bottom)...
Let's just say it hasn't been a good weekend for upgrades.....
I bought these used 4-piston calipers a while ago under the belief they were from an '04.5. Now I'm wondering...
I didn't notice until I got them on and drove around the block once - the passenger side has longer 'arms' for the mounting holes, which means the passenger side brake pads aren't completely on the rotors (sitting off ~3/8" !!!). The part #'s I have are: driver (good side) side - ??.7915.01; passenger (bad) side - 20.7915.02.
Are these not the correct parts? This can't be right on the passenger side.
I guess I'm off to put the stock brakes/rotors back on (what a pain.....).

They look like they came off a 2004.5 C230. They used the same brakes in 2005+ on other cars like the SLK350, so don't know if there's a difference but they look the same. You can probably get part numbers from your dealers parts dept.

Neither of these calipers are form a 2004.5.
Please see: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post2744171
These 4-piston calipers are found on MANY different cars (examples: C350, SLK55, CLK55, S500, CL500, ML500, an ML55) and it looks like the mounting arms vary slightly according to the specific rotors used for each application.

Would anybody with a '04.5 be able to post inside & outside pics of your brake calipers (wheels off)? Maybe get the part #'s from the inside too? I know there are some pics in the brake thread, but it would be nice to see some on the car. Thanks in advance!

OK, I've been PM'd that the part #'s on the outside of their 04.5 calipers are: 20.7048.04 - drivers side; and 20.7048.03 - passenger side. Can anyone confirm/deny these #'s? Those are definitely not what I have in hand...

One more view of the problem - the one caliper has longer arms than the other. Obviously not a matched set...
I should have nice pics of TRUE 2004.5 calipers tomorrow.

Here's a pic of the outsides of the calipers I was sold (same ones as in the pics above):
Again, check out the difference in length of the mounting arms between each caliper.
It would appear the numbers on the inside/outside of the calipers are Brembo part #'s, not Mercedes part #'s. Unfortunately, these #'s do not identify which model(s) these will fit or come from...
Now, check out the wear patterns on the rotors from using these calipers:
The inner holes tell the story. See how they're all cleared on the one rotor but some aren't on the other? The caliper with the longer arms puts the brake pads further out from center. The caliper with the longer arms was meant for a larger rotor.
Looking for opinions from anyone willing to chime in... Was I sold the wrong calipers?

In case anyone missed it earlier, and for future reference, it appears the #'s on the inside & ouside are Brembo part #'s (casing #'s ?) . EPC says the Mercedes part #'s for the '04.5 model (sports package - code 949) are: A 002.420.83.83(L) & A 002.420.84.83(R), which I can find nowhere on the calipers......
