Get the 06. It's a newer car with a newer powertrain, probably still a bit of warranty left, the 2.5 V6 is a bit slower but isn't going to be as prone to issues as the 1.8SC.

Mars Red is a very nice color, and is fairly rare on Benzes. Obsidian Black is an interesting color, and very subtle.
Black, silver, and white are boring. Get anything else if you can. Makes it easier when you get to the parking lot, too.
But finally black, the color i finally ended up with, was my choice and absolutely LOVE it. When kept clean, its simply looks sexy, mean, dark and sinister yet subtle and clean that adds depth, dimension, and sophistication with a sense of class on the car. Not many people usually go for black car where i live unless its an expensive car, because its something that takes time to perfect. With that said, if you really love your car and have time to spend taking care of it visually, go for it. No regrets here
Something about the black always gets comments from people about "how clean" the car looks (even when I think it's dirty). It just looks great all the time, I think because the famous Mercedes "fit and finish" really shows up more with the darker colors (contrast with the lights and the trim).
I have the grey interior in my C280. I thought I'd like the black interior, but I drove a few, and it felt oppressive and dark (plus the dust and dirt shows up on the inside the way it shows up on the outside, only you live inside the car, so it's always there) so I went with the grey and I'm glad I did. It's just brighter inside, more cheery than the black. The color scheme with the redwood trim is really nice with the grey too, but it's really a matter of personal choice.
I would go with the 06 for the reasons above--more warranty, newer equipment, 6 cylinder, etc and I don't think the Kompressor (last year was 05 if I'm not mistaken) gives you enough of a boost to make it worthwhile (a good friend of mine has an '05 C230 Kompressor and it's just not that fast). Also, I'd rather have a bigger engine than a booster any day.
Good luck--you really can't go wrong either way!
I only buy white or silver cars because they stay looking the cleanest and I don't have the patience or time to wash my car 3 times a week.
However black cars do look spectacular when they are clean. But they generally stay clean for only 1 day after a wash. After 1 day, you start to see dust and dirt. Also, black cars show a lot of swirls in the finish very quickly, which is what annoys me the most about black. When you get the car detailed, MAKE SURE the detailer is reputable and guarantees their work. I have seen many black cars look horendous after a buff job because of the use of incorrect buffing pads and/or buffing compound.
1. Kompressor had better low-end torque (which means the Kompressor felt like it had more umph off the line) and better gas mileage (I would do long highway runs at 3000 RPM and watch the gas mileage to up to 35 on the computer system). But, the difference in low-end torque is not that big of a deal and only noticable when driven back-to-back.
2. The '07 has the body kit upgrades and looks better than the '05. At first I was not too happy to have the Mars Red, but now I like it. It is always the best looking car in a parking lot. But, then again, I hand wash it every week and keep the interior spotless.
3. At one point, someone in the dealership's service department said that the engine in the '07 is the best engine MB ever made and that it is practically bullet proof. Also, by the '07 model year, MB had gotten all the kinks worked out.
4. The brakes on the '05 wore out a lot faster than on the '07. My '07 has 62,000 miles on it and has the same pads and rotors. The '05 went through at least one full set on each corner by that point.
5. The transmission on both cars seems to be the same.
6. If it were me, I would get the car with the better financial deal as there really is not much differnce between the two versions.
