Check out my NEW GAUGES!!! C230 K

Well, I originally ordered a white faced amg cluster from a c43. I was planning on putting this in my clk by taking the faces and doinga transplant.

Turns out the seller sent me a W220 S class cluster instead. Has the SAME FRIGGIN pin to the back of the cluster, same connecter.

So I powered her up . Boy it makes the car look lite years more expensive and luxurious, now if only it fit the contour of the hole correctly :p

I won the dam cluster for 31 bucks, i think i got a good buy, but here is some pics, as u can see it lights up and works fine. But i will need to shave some off the left and rite to fit it in the hole, but this wasjust to see if it will work. I dont think Id go drivin around with it, cuz the miles on this cluster is different from mine.

Still its so cool to see that they are compatible.

It doesnt fit in the hole, its too big by 1/4 inch on each side, it could easilyu be shaved to fit, but once again, i just wanted to see if it would work because I acquired this cluster by mistake and want to make use out of it now.

S class cluster is flat, no curve on top, so obviosuly wouldnt look great in the hole.

But if I really wanted too, I bet it would fit nicely with some modification.

The gauges have such a cooler look to them, the tach is just what I wanted lol.

Cant believe it even powered on. Thats crazy.

I got it off ebay if anyone was wonderin.

That would be neat if it would fit right. I wonder what it would take to get it right. What is the extra gauge in the S cluster?

A nice big temperature gauge

Nicer than the digital.

It wouldnt take much at all to fit, its just late and I wanted to at least plug it in. Ill try some work on it tommrow, there is 2 edges that are preventing it from going in, im gunna cut them off with the dremel. And no, the glass will not be touched, its all the back section that fits correct, just needs some tweakin. Who knows if id drive with it in tho lol

that is real real crazy man. so the mileage that comes up is different from your actual mileage? i thought the mileage info would be dtored somewhere else than the gauge cluster ( the computer?)

Yeah, im positive that the mielage is contained within the cluster. A good friend of mine tells me that the 2003 Coupes and other cars have it stored in the ignition unit as well. So dont plan on just swapping a cluster for mielage, thats just asking for trouble.

This was just an experiment tho like I said, wasnt done for mielage at all, didnt even move the car LOL.

I am going to see if i can get it to fit cleaner inside the dash, and if i can I will have my dealer reprogram the mielage, that is easily done from what I hear with the STAR computer thing they have.

Yeah I think our clusters suck too, i never liked that huge crappy speedo. Useless

Well, I woudl at least want a different color scheme and maybe the standard cluster would look good. Who knows Id like to see white faces on it!

But, I am going to see what I can do for fitment of the S cluster. It only cost me 31 bucks, so whatever I can pretend to be a professional

The c coupe cluster is so crappy lookin when u take it out, its just cheep plastic, the old clk cluster and S cluster are much better quality. I bet the sedan C class cluster W203 would work with our car, the rear and front section switches, and the rear looks identical to a sedan one from what ive seen

Just because ist's blue instead of amber?? Sorry, I don't get it. LEDs/bulbs are of about same prices no matter what color; what's so luxurious about it?

The color tone seems alot different. Since its like the ****pit of the car and u stare at it alot, or at least I do when im checkin the tach, I feel it makes a big difference on the interior.

Its totally black when the car is off, dark tinted. The gauges arent as chincy looking as our C clusters. It just makes a nice compliment to the interior IF IT FIT RITE

I wish it did, but theres no replacement for a standard cluster. Instead Id like to get the lighting changed on the stock one, and change the gauge and/or needle color.

But I cracked open the cluster to check it out, and the bulbs are soldered onto the PCB, unlike the older CLK I own.

I was just experimenitin thats all.

As far as I know, a dealer has no way of changing the mileage, and it is probably good that they don't have this capability. It could easily be abused. When the dealer orders a new cluster for the car, they must include the mileage and the cluster is shipped with the mileage already on it. So you would have to find out if you can get it sent back to MB and changed. I'm sure it possible to change it, but I doubt it would be easy to get them to do it.

I doubt this will make it into my car as a permanent thing, i was just amazed at the compatibility. Its neat how it works, totally changes the interior styling when its lit up. I like the gauges, and you get a temp gauge.

I heard of someone on the W208 board who got an amg cluster and got the mielage done, but ur rite, I do recall them having to send it direct to MB. Costs $$$

Do the steering wheel buttons work? And I assume you get the menus from the S-class. I wonder how that might affect the car. I guess there is nothing extremely important in there.

crazy!!!

This swap just makes me want to do it. My C 240 is tight, but when I drive on the freeway and check out the other S classes alongside, their panel is so much nicer! Tell us more when you get it done!

So could we take apart our clusters, and re-solder white LEDs in the place of the amber ones? That seems like a simple enough thing to do. I've soldered many things on/off a computer motherboard, it cant be much more than that can it?

gauge cluster

that is freakin awesome how that came out i liek it alot? you said that you got it for about 31 bucks or so but from where did you get it at that price and whut was the procedure for taking the original out and placing the new cluster in? or is it too technical that you might have to get a pro to do it?

The heads up display works, the MFD that is. In my pic my cam was not workin to well, it lites up a nice cool blue. Everything functioned perfect.

Now Ill need to see about the fitment later today.

I ll let you all know how it turns out

Once again, I got it on ebay. I got it by mistake, the seller sent it to me, im waitin for a refund but he aint respondin so ill keep it. Its worth a hell of a lot more than a regular c cluster anyways
