Some Surprise logic in Car systems

I didnt know this but the wipers turn off when you have the driver door open. Very nice to know that the designers thought about the little things.

Ask the MB designers. They are the one's that put the feature in there.

This might be one reason...

(primarily for the mono wiper models) I know the W203's have the 'standard' 2 wiper config -

If a passenger were getting in/out of the car:

a) water will not get slung from the wiper onto the person standing outside of the car

b) if they grabbed the A-pillar (windshield post) to get in or out of the car, their fingers might get hit by a moving wiper.

Some people (especially heavier or very tall people) are in the habit of doing this, despite the prescence of the passenger assist handles in the car's ceiling above the door opening. A lot of American makes still don't incorporate that feature, so people grab onto the body, door frame to help raise / lower themselves in or out of a car.

- with the mono wiper, that would be a painful experience; it would probably tear one's fingers open because even on a single swipe, it moves quickly. That metal blade holder could do some serious injury.

Yes.
I was getting snow off the read window and opened the door to turn on the heated seats thats when i noticed the logic. If it wasnt there, snow would have been flung all over me as well as the open door.

this is what makes MB cars so great. they have features that at first make you go "huh?" and then when you think about them they make you go "oh yeah, that's pretty cool." of course, they make jealous people go "well that's dumb, who needs that." i get alof of that. those that have never owned an MB can never understand. we get used to these little features and when they're gone (like when driving someone else's car), we miss them. those that have never owned cars of this caliber can't understand why we would want such nit picky features.

Of course you guys know the lights go on with the wipers when in the "auto" position, right? They'll also go on in rainsense mode but only if the wipers are going pretty frequently.

i just tried that a couple weeks ago and i don't think the lights came on with the wipers. but they were in auto mode (i'm sure they do come on in low and high modes) hmmmm, i'll have to try that again tonight.

They lights will go on as long as it is in Auto and the wipers are running. If the wipers run only very intermittently, the light stays off. Once the rain (or whatever) increases and the wipers run "more often" the lights will go on. Once you turn the wipers off the lights will turn off too (except it is dark enough to trigger the auto lights).

they dont splash more water on you when they are turned on, assuming you are already getting wet because they would be turned on when it is raining. its the little things that count!

I like that the drivers seat does not move until the door is closed even though your key is in the ignition. On power seat ones that is.

Don't forget the steering wheel if you got it set up. The exception here, at least on my car, is that everything stops once you start the car.
