How long does it take for the AC compressor to turn off when you push the AC button off? My dealer is telling me it should take 15 minutes from the time that I push the AC button to "Off" for the compressor to turn off. The LED goes off immediately. This sounds bogus to me. This is on an '06 with the temperature dials.

#1, why are you turning the AC off in Phoenix!

#2, yes it takes a while, i wouldn't be suprised if it was more than 15 mins. There is no AC compressor clutch on our cars like other cars.

Mine seems to stay on for ~ 10 minutes before it stops pumping refridgerated air.

No idea why they designed it to wait 15 minutes after you turn it off, but they did. If you turn the climate control off completely and then turn it back on the A/C will shut off immediately.

That's how I force the AC off.

The curious bit is that the loaner w204 turns the AC off almost immediately when you toggle the AC button off while in Auto.

These units use a swash plate compressor to reduce NVH - no clutch. When you turn off the switch the compressor swash plate returns to vertical & ceases compressing refrigerant. It takes a while for the pressure in the circuit to drop & refrigerant circulation to cease in the evapourator. Only way to stop it is to cut air flow through the evapourator

Kind of a lame system I think. Most people will turn it off when they start to get too cold...now I have to guess that I'll get too cold in about 15 minutes.

if you turn the heat on, warm air will come through the vents instantly. We're talking about shutting AC system off only.

Well at least it is silent & does not induce vibration like crude crappy old clutched units.
