Best Wax and Polish

Curious what everyone is using for waxing. Anybody tried something that works really well and lasts a long time ? And how about this "clay bar" stuff I read about. Is it worth the time ?

Oh no, here we go again! Haven't had this thread for a while -- David N. where are you?

I use Blitz wax and it seems to do a very good job and lasts for several months. I've done it twice on my C240 since I got it in August. Some people swear by Zaino -- you'll be hearing about that soon.

I use Zaino products, as do many otheres here. Not a wax but a polymer sealer. Easy to use. Use a clay bar only if your feel if you feel rough places in the paint. If your paint is smooth, don't use clay. There is a lot more info in the Deataing and Automotive forum: https://mbworld.org/forums/detailing-automotive-care-37/

Was that soon enough, MarkL?

Zaino here too !!! Clayed my car once... Will probably clay it again annually since the glass smooth feeling is starting to give way to the bonded contaminants.

Zaino is the way to go I'll clay mine again after the winter. You could also use zaino on the windows as well. It works beatifully.

I am completely ignorant about waxing a car but I am selling a 2000 with metalic paint. It has swirls and small scratches everywhere.

You say Clay only if rough in places. My car has not been waxed since I bought it so is this recommended?

Is Zaino available only online?

To be honest if someone knows of a good resource to learn about car waxing I don't know the first thing about it. I really am not a typical MB owner. I have never even opened the hood of my current car.

Thanks

Nathan

Generally, polymer sealants like klasse and zaino will give as good a shine as carnuba wax, but last much longer. If you decide to go the carnuba route, use blitz. It's the best combo of durability and shine of any carnuba.

As for polishes, 3M makes the best ones. Try SMR or Finesse IT II with a PC.

Clay is used to remove bonded contaminants that have bonded themselves to the clearcoat/paint of your vehicle. Clay used correctly is a easy way to remove these contaminants. In the old days, we used to have to use rubbing or polishing compound to remove these contaminants. If your car has not been polished/waxed since purchase, I would imagine that it needs "The complete treatment". It is hard to tell you without knowing more about your vehicle (Year, color, paint condition, etc).

Zaino is only sold online. The best place to purchase it (in my opinion) is directly from Sal Zaino at his webpage (www.zainobros.com).... The Zaino webpage has many good application and use tips.

Another page that has good information is http://www.carcareonline.com/ ...

I use Z1(Pre Lok), Z2(Polish), Z6(Gloss Enhancer) and Z7(Car Wash) and Z19 (Clay Bar) .. Z5 is recommended if you need to fill in swirl marks, however, if your swirl marks are bad I would use a good quality scratch remover first.

now i dont want to sound like an antizaino person.... but nathan has yet to wax his car.... zaino might be a bit extreme for him.

there are a lotta steps, and a lotta waiting. ideal temperatures, shade requirements, and a whole mess of stuff to buy.

i could never get into zaino. all that work, just to give a bird something shiny to **** on

maybe i am too fatalistic

I use Meguire's Carnuba on my classics. It works very well with the laquer paint on them.

For my Benz, I've used Zymol, and washed with Blue Coral wash and wax between rub-down's. Both work well with clear coated paints and seem to last.
