flat emblem hood

Hi,

I just got the flat emblem hood but can't seem to find the way to install it. I took off the original emblem but the flat hood one doesn't seem to fit( it's a bit loose). Am i missing some pieces or is there anything i have to detach from the flat emblem hood itself? (All i can play around is the nut and this black rubberish thing)
Please help

The flat, brass piece goes from the top of the hood (threads first), and the black rubber thingie wedges it to the hood from underneath. The bolt holds the rubber thingie in place and ensures the tight fit.

The emblem itself has two plastic posts. There should also be two white grommets, that fit into the brass piece from above. Don't push them all the way into the brass fitting, otherwise it will be difficult to press the emblem all the way down... leave about 1/8" protruding. Then push the emblem posts into the grommets and all the way to the hood.

It takes some fiddling.

tighten the nut, but not all the way (not on the hood yet). then insert from top of hood and rotate it, so the black rubber is horizontal/perpendicular to how you want the 2 holes to line up.

the tricky part is while you're tightening the nut all the way (from under the hood), the top brass piece will rotate with it (which means your emblem will be mis-aligned).

what i did was to insert a screwdriver from the top so it would prevent the brass piece from rotating.

tighten the nut so there is no play or movement. then insert the emblem with the grommets. (the thing i did different from MB-BOB was that i had inserted the grommets onto the emblem itself as opposed to the brass piece). i don't think it'll make a difference though...good luck!

Nice variation, M Brabus. I'm sure there's no difference in the procedure, but I was concerned if I put the grommets on the emblem, there might be a chance to break the posts from the emblem while pushing the emblem into the mount (if it turned out that I had to push really hard to get it to lay flush with the hood). That didn't turn out to be a problem, so I'm sure either procedure will work.

And you are certainly right about the alignment. Took several "loosen/rotate/tighten" cycles for me to get it straight!!!

when i first got the emblem the badge was already attached to the brass piece..so all i could do was rotate the black rubber thing and then tighten the screw..i hope i did this right.
by the way does anything come off from the original that might go under the screw part, because first i thought i had to detach the spring part of the original and somehow attach the flat emblem into the rotating piece of the original emblem
thanks for your replies~ Great help!

We just asked our dealer to put the flat medallion on the car in place of the star before we took delivery. They said it was a simple change, since they have to install the hood ornaments on all the cars anyway.

check ebay, or the classified section of MBWorld. easiest, and fastest way i would say is go to the parts dept. at your local MB dealer. Try and find one the sells wholesale. Hoehn MB in Carlsbad does.

formymercedes.com has the cheapest price, and I just got one from them. They were backordered for a week or two, though, so who knows if they'll be out of stock again now.

From their website:

Installation:

Remove the original Mercedes "standing star" emblem by twisting it from under the hood. Once the spring pressure is released, it will pop out. Insert the white sleeves into the top of the emblem holder. The flat part of sleeves will be on top. Install the emblem holder with the attached nut and black clamp firmly, but not completely tight - so it can still be turned for proper positioning of the emblem. Add a little silicone adhesive under the hood emblem. Then press the fingers of the emblem into the white holder sleeves. Position the emblem to face correctly, then tighten the nut on the holder.

You can remove it easily by just getting pliers and gripping the prongs underneath, not squeezing them together, and just turning. Then the whole assembly slides out.

yeah,
if you're into cheap Taiwan knock-offs that will chip away in the sun.

Plus with the Shipping & Handling charges all these scammers charge, you make out better buying from the Dealer, AUTOWERKS Direct, or ForMyMercedes.com, and you get an authentic MB part.

Not correct and $81 is freakin' outrageous! It's a shame that dealerships still try to ripoff their own customers. Try eBay or the recommendations here in this thread to get a flat hood emblem.
