p2004, p0128 codes. is my c280 ok to drive for a few days
hey guys, i have a 2006 c280 and the good ol check engine light came on today. It threw two codes p0128 "coolant thermostat below spec" and p2004 "intake manifold runner control stuck open bank 1". My question is its not going to hurt the car if i drive it the rest of the weekend like this right? I am going to the benz shop first thing monday morning, but wanna still drive it this weekend, seeing how its the first snowfall of the year, I wanna see how it does in the snow? Any info would be great. thanks guys

I would just keep an eye on the running temp of the car. Don't push the car too hard either.

Well, that's the problem, though. A P0128 code probably means a bad thermostat, which means you're not going to be able to tell with any accuracy, what the running temp actually is. Even so, you'll probably be OK as long as you're not running it too hard or long.

The thermostat is the device that governs the amount of coolant flowing. The oil temp gauge is a different apparatus.

Drew is right. Plus 0128 tells me that its stuck open which means the car won't be running hot.. rather, it won't be able to reach normal operating temp. It will be inefficient, but I don't think it will do damage if you just drive it for a day or so. Keep an eye on the temp gauge for sure.
P2004 sounds like another failed cam sensor on the M272. Lots of those popping up recently. Do a search. There are 4 of them on the 272 and I think the codes are P2001-P2004.

FWIW I have had intermittent CEL on for a long time now, finally took it to the shop and they pulled these two codes, then quoted me $1800 just to do service B (what I originally went for), replace the thermostat, and to SEE what the broken manifold piece was before fixing it. I paid my $120 diagnostic fee and left. My car has driven fine with these issues for a long time now and I dont plan on playing $2k+ out of pocket to fix them if its not urgent. Though I am considering trading my car in much sooner...
