I Want To Paint My OEM Grille Black

I want to paint my stock grille black.

Should I have MACCO paintshop do it?'

Or should I do it myself?

Where are you located?
If you're in Socal I'd recommend HMS to you. I've gone through 3 different grilles and ended up just having them paint it for me. If you choose to paint it yourself remember it's all about the prep work.

Cool, I love trance, jungle, hip hop, any beats really, but no, I don't spin but a lot of my buddies do/did party back in the lat 90s early 2k. I didn't go out as much as all my friends because the candy kids at school played it out to death and defeated the whole underground aspect of it, but I did go to a few parties and love the beats...

I can't comment on hiphop because I'm not that familiar of the way it works but with Trance/Electro you don't need to be famous to be good. Most of the good songs are all average DJs.

Here is a great example of a nonfamous DJ who even produces his music in FruityLoops (did a very good job for FruityLoops)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLrb74yvBS4 (amazing job at 2:22 then he goes for the kill at 4:05)

Here is Tiesto's new album (sure Tiesto is better but tiesto isn't beating him buy much and again tiesto is using more expensive better tools to create his music)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHXl8SnCvrU

This one is a little more crazier

AVOID MAACO AT ALL COST!!! You could do a better job with $5 spray paint from Walmart. But don't do that. I'd have a go at it myself, a paint shop can always fix it.

How do you like the look? I plasti-dip sprayed mine matte black, so I could peel it off incase it turned out bad, or leave it on (it's crazy durable!). No sanding, 7 bucks, no regrets on not getting it actually painted.

I ended up peeling it off, my car's too stock to handle the intense look of it.

I actually plan on doing this in the upcoming week or two. My method is gonna be to sand down the chrome with a really like grit sand paper, not sure what yet still tryin to figure that out, then gonna spray it with an XIM Primer, then Matte Black, then spray it with a clear coat. Anyone think that'll work or have a better way to do it?

I used the exact same product as well. No sanding required. Just clean the grill and spray. I took this route so I can take the paint off if I ever change my mind.

^^^Amen. +1^^^
Befor I had my kit I got all the lower black trim on my car color matched there and they did an awesome job, so I trusted my car w/ MACCO to paint/install my rear bumper lip.
1) they didn't trim/fit the fiberglass piece
2) the piece was not attached correctly
3) a new huge scagg scratch on the quarterpanel when I picked it up
4) lazy worker set and dragged a box on top of my trunk
5) the car wasn't ready when they said it would be

...In their defense they did fix the quarterpanel scratch at no charge - two weeks later I had to drop off my car to have them fix their mistake and reattach the rear bumper lip, however they used some screws or fasteners from the outside and covered it up w/ body work which is now cracking and they still didn't trim the fiberglass piece itself so it is even on both sides...I just ended up taking my car and promising myself to never make that same mistake ever again

Hi,
I did not paint my grille, I used PVC adhesive tape, uv, water, heat resistant,

http://www.orafol.com/en/home.html,

ORACAL 751 C High Performance Cast
Plotter materials, Digital printing materials Cast PVC film (60 micron); 116 high gloss colours plus matt white and matt black; excellent durability and dimensional stability incl. in corrugations and on rivets; solvent polyacrylate, permanent adhesion; german approval acc. to StVZO § 22a (ABG)

It can be easily removed, and no sticky residues.

Visit your local graphics shop and buy a big sheet with trade price.

I painted mine myself. Like the poster above said, its all about the prepwork. I sanded and sanded and sanded til the chrome is buffed off and the surface is smooth.
What I did was I sprayed 2 coats of self adhesive primer, 4 coats of black primer, 4 coats of acrylic enamel and 3 coats of clear acrylic lacquer.
No rock chips so far.

+1 -PVC tape works awesome, and is easy to install. Painting is easy too, but the tape has a more finished look to it IMO if installed correctly.
