So to update everyone on my car I am at 212,000 Miles. Car is doing decent needs the passenger side lower control arm replaced (have part just need some warm weather) also needs new front brakes as something happened to the rotors and the pads are wearing out really fast for some reason. Just ordered some new Rotors and Akebono pads so hope they will serve me well. I also have a fuel filter to go in as the current one has about 110,000 miles on it. I am also having some engine noise that I believe is the timing chain posted a link to a video what do you guys think? (FYI it makes the same noise with belt off I replaced the water pump because I thought it was what was making this noise and was very upset to find water pump was perfect even with 200,000+ miles on it and still had this noise) At first startup I can hear it very slightly but really don't hear it till car is warmed up unless it is just a tensioner I am going to ignore it until it snaps/skips as it is way to much work to deal with on an engine with this many miles. I also need to change the fluid in the Rear dif (have had fluid for 2 years now) and do a transmission fluid flush or drain again which should I do flush or pan drain? I did an oil change a few months ago and had an analysis done as you can see in the picture the 0w-40 had 9,600 miles on it when I did the change and I had to add 3.25 quarts of oil over the life of the oil (I am leaking at the rear main seal and probably burning some at this many miles) Glyn if you read this what do you think about the results also any insight on the fuel in the oil?

Hi Trey ~ Saw PM.

Excellent oil analysis. The slight bit of fuel is from cold weather open loop fully enriched starts.
If there was more fuel I would suspect a dribbling injector but not at this level. You can run one tank with Techron concentrate to make sure if you want to.

That slight clatter with Poly V Belt off could be oil pump chain, or upper timing chain or a slightly gummed up hydraulic lifter. You need to take a stethescope to the engine to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. The sample shows clearly that there is no abnormal wear coming from any component.

Good for the next 200K miles.

Well that's good to hear I put Techron through as it has been probably 2 years but I never use sub par gas.
As for the noise the timing chain noise would be right behind the front cover but where would I hear a lifter making noise? If it is a lifter how much labor is involved with that vs a timing chain? My father did notice a little oil was burned at startup yesterday morning which is the first time we have seen that which is surprising with that many miles.

Yes ~ behind the water pump. Oil pump drive just above the crank. Lifter along the cam covers on each bank.

Lifter is easy on the single cam per bank engines because you just have to lift the rocker shaft.

Have you had a chance to figure out that noise yet? I've been wondering about it.

So sadly the time has come to move on from my trusty old W203. I have been thinking about this for months now as the timing chain noise as well as having to replacing every dam control arm has been driving me nuts. The car also has the door rust that is common in the early w203s so she is not looking her best anymore anyway. I have been suffering from poor fuel mileage on top of all that so she is old and expensive to keep up. My plan is to get the headlights removed and sold and then sell her as is or trade her in if they give me enough. She is currently at around 214,000 miles and I haven't even driven her in two weeks besides moving around community.
I had been driving the families 2008 G8 GT which is amazingly fast and drives great but interior and fuel mileage leave a lot to be desired but hey its cheap. So as the car was given to me I decided to just trade it in on something that would be safe, get good MPG and had to have onstar/mbrace or some type of crash response system (I drive a lot at night family said it had to have it). Well my dad had a 2005 e320 cdi that I remember got great mileage and had a great interior so I thought maybe that would be ok but I went on the car hunt anyway looking at everything from a new corolla to Mazda cx-5 and many other cars and decided that I would want an 07-09 e320 Bluetec as it would have mbrace and I liked the v6 engine. Well I found a 2008 E320 Bluetec with the P1 package (sadly no bix) that was at a mb dealership and a decent price. Took some negotiating on the trade but today I picked it up. So far it is amazing on the way home from dealership I average 39.6 MPG it was only 15 miles I believe but still that is just amazing! The car inside looks brand new outside has a few cosmetic things but overall it is a great car that has the best maintenance history I have ever seen to be honest. Who changes the rear diff fluid at 48k? Well here is a link to the thread I started in the w211 section to continue this on I will post pics soon in the new thread. https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post6024736

Well, good luck to you with the new car; think you'll be able to control yourself and not mod it too much? Though to switch cars just so you don't have to buy Glyn a beer seems a bit extreme to me.

I really don't know back in the day a set would go for $1,000 + but I know now that the demand is not what it use to be so maybe like $750 will have to research. Open to offers

Hey Trey, just catching up with what's been happening with your car! Glad to see you're enjoying the new purchase.

I had a question for you since you live in NOVA. I've been looking at houses around here and will be purchasing something in the near future. When I do, I can no longer use my parents' address as a permanent residence and will now be subject to the VA emissions inspection

Seeing as I have my secondary cats and resonator removed, but I DO have my primary cats still, I was trying to find out what exactly do they do in Fairfax/Arlington Counties for emissions? I know that in MD they simply plug into the OBDII and if there are no CEL codes that refer to any of the emissions components it passes. Not sure if VA is the same. Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated!

Well we have both state inspection and Emissions inspection.
For state inspection you can get a list of what they check on VA state police website that said I have passed with Xenon kit installed in high beams and my horn unplugged (testing them) and that was at a dealer lol
As for emissions if exhaust is amg quiet then you should be fine as long as no CEL and monitors are ready. I don't believe they put car on lift and even if they do you have cats so it should pass with flying colors.

Cool man, thanks for the info!

I already live in VA so I have an up to date state inspection, there's actually some place right off route 50 at 7 corners that I went to last time and it was pretty easy to pass haha. They just don't require emissions in the county I am registered in (Fluvanna County) so I've never had to deal with it.

BS I was looking at w211's the same time as you. It is strange that we both ended up with new cars within a week too bad mine is better as always

I was driving down the highway today going 70mph and the only noise I could hear was the cars passing me. Couldn't hear wind, windshield wipers, tires, engine ect... all while getting 37MPG I believe was my average for the day doing ~70% highway

Celine, playing on my COMAND unit via DVD, begs to differ about yours being better. Although that fuel economy is certainly much, much better.

It is stunning to me how quiet the W211 is inside. It's silent. And even with the AMG Sport pack and 18" monoblocks the ride is so good.

BTW, is the diesel engine on these cars more expensive in maintenance, or is it just a myth?
I know about BlueTec fluid, but that's def a DIY thing.

Hey Matt and Trey!

You 211 punks..I can't believe you guys changed cars. Congrats!! How have you 2 lovebirds been? Long time no talk. I've been ok. Major maintenance this weekend.

Replace engine plugs
Replace all Engine mounts (including transmission)
Transmission oil and filter change
Engine oil and filter change
Front and rear shock replacement
Front arms (all of it)
Rear arms (all of it)
New tires
Spark plugs
Fuel filter change
Allignment

Car just hit 100k!

Other than being a little wobbly biatch she is doing fine (that'll change this weekend). Looking for a new tune as well and maybe a 55k airbox.

No real update on my end. Have C55 front and rear seats. AMG door panels and dyed headliner and other misc interior parts black. Changed carpet and floor mats to black. Dash to black. Interior is all black now. Hated the damn ash color.

How are the new cars? You guys still have my email? Shoot me an email. Hope there is a Celine Dion concert soon in LA so I can see you guys lol
