Question I have to mix the Mercedes brand coolant?

So I just changed my thermostat on my 2005 m271 and coolant poured eerywhere so I'm gonna drain it all and just add new coolant. After reading forums I bought the $20 coolant gallon at Mercedes.
My question is...am I reading the forums right that I have to mix this gallon of coolant with a gallon of distilled water in a separate container then add that mix to the car?

I'm so used to just pouring straight from store bought bottle that's already mixed 50/50 straight into my car.

I believe you can get the coolant either way. You're telling me it doesn't say this on the bottle?!

It says on back Mercedes recommends a 50/50 mixture. This mixture will provide freeze up protection down to -37*c and boil over protection up to 136*c

so Im I just having a brain fart and thinking to much about this? By reading that I think I can pour it straight in right?

i would say poor in both and let the water pump mix it up. Never heard of that causing an issue before. so get half water and half fluid and poor it in and drive the car for awhile and let it mix them up.

This sounds good to me. But if you do not know how much fluid the car is going to take, then you might not have enough room left for the water. This is probably why they tell you to mix it first.

going by this DIY who bought the same coolant I did... https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...rain-fill.html

he says to just add the whole gallon into the resevior then top off with water...so is that right?

It's only right if you can get the total mixture to 50/50. So if that gallon brings you over 50% capacity - you're sort of screwed and will have to remove some.

I think you should premix it just to "fool-proof" things so that you know you have 50/50. If you're sure of the total capacity and you've done the math then go ahead and dump it in separately.

It kind of goes back to original question...is this Benz coolant already mixed 50/50? Or do I need to mix in water myself?
TIA

You posted the directions yourself. It needs to be mixed. The front of the bottle should also say if it is premixed or not.
I can't imagine that the labeling on the bottle can be that confusing. Can it?

Mix it 50/50% with deionised or distilled water. In USA they sell concentrate in ROW they sell premix. Too much coolant retards heat transfer.

Done! almost

This is what I ended up doing...mixing both gallons in a water jug then pouring them both in lol
I have to mix the Mercedes brand coolant?-picture.jpg

I still have half a gallon left tho? Ive drove like 10 miles and it doesnt drop any in the resevior for me to use the remaining half gallon.

When will my CEL light go off now? Do i have to drive for a few days before this p0128 goes away.

(Operating temperature too low for engine)

interesting how much did you take out? and i hope that water jug gets cleaned out well lol
as for the check engine light just go to a parts place and barow a scaner to reset the light. cel don't always go out after you start the car a few times. also what temp are you running at now?

I let it drain for like 10 mins..it was only a lil drippage when I closed the bottom radiator screw.

Ive went to autozone and advanced auto parts this morning to ask them if they could reset my CEL and they all act like its a big crime or something and wont do it?! One guy at autozone told me I have to drive around for a few days so the ecu recognizes and confirms everything is good.

oh and it runs at approx 87* but it takes a WHILE for it to get up there.

did you look up how many quarts your system holds in the owners manual?
Interesting in my area you just go in ask to barrow a scanner and they put a temp charge on your credit card and hand you the scanner. sometimes cel reset themselves but now always it depends.
where do you live? if it is really cold it might take awhile for it to get up to 87. last night it took 15 minutes to get up to 87 lol but it was 14f + 30-40mph sustaned wind.

Yes it can. It says on the back:
"BOIL OVER PROTECTION
% Antifreeze 50"

Is it pre diluted or not? Who freaken' knows?

You can always buy an antifreeze tester thing for $5 if you want to make sure...

Bought twice from dealer. One jug was with yellow coolant, the other with blue coolant
Neither was pre-mixed.

From the dealership it is NOT pre-mixed, ever. It is 100% concentrated ethylene glycol. Hopefully this clears that up.
