Clicking noise
I recently had the dealership perform the Camshaft Solenoid campaign. I'm getting a clicking noise (like a sawing machine) coming from the front of the engine after they replaced the parts. Took the car back and they told me my supercharger belt tensioner is causing the problem. My car has 127K and is a 2002 C 230K. Anybody experienced the same problem?

Its weird...in Canada they have no clue about these recalls, service bulletins etc.
I called a few dealerships here and they took my VIN# and said theres no pending work on my car. Did you guys have to give them the recall # or the service bulletin # before MB agreed to do the work?

Open your hood and look to see if is the little black thing near the esp module. it is a valve of some sort that makes a ticking noise.

What is the little black valve near the esp module that ticks? Ours has been ticking rapidly after a drive during the winter months.
Haven't heard anything about a recall, but it would be nice to get a loaner for a day or two while they got it done.

I don't remember what it is called. I think it is something to do with emissions. i know they redesigned the mount for it at some point to try to help isolate the sound but it still made a sound from what i have read. i just ignore mine because i never could find the PN for the redesigned mounts.

I had this done recently. I took the car in for a catalytic converter replacement and they performed the recall service. It is NOT for the camshaft, it's the solenoid.

so is the recall only for 2002 or what? i have a 2006 c230 and the guy at the shop told me that i need to get my solenoid replace, so i'm just wondering if the 06 are coverd under the recall

That is the purge valve. Mount it on rubber to shut it up.

As we've seen with Toyota, stepping up to the plate and admitting (and fixing) broken sh*t will always lead to happier customers.
Not sure why you'd be happier with a broken car instead of getting a free fix.
Though this will be my one and only Benz, I'm glad they had a recall. I still think too much stuff goes wrong with them (like my SRS sensor in the passenger's side seat, which is getting replaced now).

I'm with you - as soon as it gets to be 65 degrees or so constantly here, I'm going to replace mine. Have you started looking at replacement cost for the part? I think that it was about a grand at the dealership, but I'm sure it can be had cheaper. Valex bought the entire cluster off ebay and switched the MFD panel, which may be a route I go down.

Ebay is the way to go.. But mine only goes out when its about 80+ outside which makes it 100 million on the inside It isn't to bad yet but it seems like all w203 that are 2004 and older have this issue.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, looked at the bay. Bought a cluster from a 2003 w/38k miles. So looks like I have a swap to do in June.

Sure, that would be no problem. What I'll do before spring is break apart the replacement and document how it was done, then we can crack open the current cluster and replace the MFD.

$165 (with shipping) - a couple of others were a little cheaper, but this was (at least stated) a lower mile car that it was from. And in my twisted mind, I rationalized that it would be in better shape. I have no idea if that's realistic, but that's my logic, and I'm sticking to it.
