Question Oil change trouble, HELP :)

Okay, so I thought I would do my own oil change to save $75.00.

Changed the oil, put exactly 8.5 quarts back in. Changed the oil filter and O-rings.

Now there is a sweaking noise. I thought it was the oil filter. So I pulled it out and noticed that the rod that holds the filter is a little loose. Is that normal? It's really annouying.... Please Help! arghh..

Has anyone else seen this?

make sure the filter is all the way in. Its not really tight but you can feel it.

Is 8.5 quarts the right amount? Isn't it 6.8 quarts? Maybe thats causing the problem?

When you were removing the filter, did you get any oil on the belts, if so that could be making a noise.

Its very possible that I may have dripped a little oil on the belt but I cant belive it still be sweaky after a few minutes.

I think it is very advisable to cover the belt area with a thick rag when changing a filter.Oil on belts can cause slippage & lessens the life span .

Yes, as pointed out the oil filter housing is perfectly normal to have some play.

Well, I woke up this morning and it's still doing it! Looks like it's going to the dealership. God damnit! There goes all the money I saved by doing it myself! This car is rediculious! All I did was a oil change! I've been doing my own for years! Jesus!

Ironic it would happen right after you changed your oil. Mine had the same problem and I think there is a TSB on it. Atleast that's what the dealer told me. Seems like a common problem.

No the pulley. This happened to my car. My SA told me this is a common issue and they had quite a few with this problem.

Hmm..I might actually have the same problem. When its very cold outside (below -10C) and when I start up the car, everytime the car revs around 1500 rpm, I hear a squeaking noise coming from the engine. This happens again at 2000RPM. Goes away when the car warms up a bit. Does that sound familiar?

Turns out this is a very common problem. I was told if you drop oil on the belt. Take some soap and clean both sides of the belt.

From now on, if you plan on doing your own oil changes make sure you cover your belts and pullys. I learned my lesson. Well at least I dont have to change my belt for 5 yrs!

Sounds like you need a new belt. When iwas having that problem. It would go away if I rev'd the engine past 2k rpm. All I can tell you is that they replaced a pully and the belt.
