Red lips on black rims whats the deal....
So I come to you after a google search and a search on here. What is the point and origin of this trend? Every where, every make, every model every kind and size of rim, now seems to come with a red lip.
Why? Who started the trend? Why is it still exist and what are the rules of it AKA (not on 4cyl, volvo only (prancing moose) ect.
I just dont get it, Its cool looking and not stupid like streched tires, plaid roof liners, and rusted hoods like the tools in the VW crown but still WTF is the deal?

Advans was one of the first on here to time attack his wheels if I recall. But this has been done with multiple colors. Some do it to match there car and some do it to match there calipers. Its just a little something to add more attention to your wheels. I might get red lips on my black wheels but my car is also red and so are my calipers.

I started the trend ... not really. I did it with my red Charger before it really took off. I liked the artist rendering of a new-generation Charger with redline tires in one of the auto magazines back in '04 or '05. I looked for old-school redline tires like they had in the '60s and couldn't find anything in my tire size. I decided to just paint the lip of the rim instead.
