Exclamation Definitive C230 tunnel mode thread

This thread/poll is targeted at 2002 C230 Coup C2 owners for the purp[ose of once and for all resolving tunnel mode questions.

This whole 2002 C230 tunnel mode issue has me wondering,

"Does it work? Can it work? or is it an urban legend?"

As far as I can find on this board, there is only 1 person in North America (on this board) that says they have tunnel mode working. That person is "susemu" and they posted that information in 2 threads here and here.

There may be other people that have this working and I would like to get the details on circumstance because if it is at all possible I want to have tunnel mode working on my car. If you have any experience with tunnel mode service on the '02 C230, please post it here and let's try to resolve this issue once and for all.

Here's a piece of the puzzle, perhaps:
A while back, someone posted a screen shot of the DAS screen for options. I can't find it and don't even remember if it was in this forum. Anyway there was a list of options and one was "sunroof". Next to each option there were "present', "not present" selections. My theory is that most cars are set to "not present" by default. What features this selection adds/subtracts is anyone's guess. My guess is Tunnel-Mode and possibly One-Touch-Close (a much more useful feature IMO).

before i bought my G, i had a c230 and the windows worked, but the sunroof no matter what you do, it will not close. there's no program or computer that can bypass anything to make it close. so if you use it, it will only work with windows.

Sorry for this bit of ignorance but I am new to this board and MB in general. But what is this "tunnel mode" that you are referencing?

DrPlastic,

tunnel mode is supposed to allow you to simultaneously shut all your windows (and sunroof) just by pressing the Recirculation button on your HVAC.. and when you press it again, the windows are supposed to return to their original positions..

I can't say I recall seeing this, but given the extremely integrated level of technology on these cars, I can see it being possible.

The 1 touch close would be cool as well. :p

Another possible clue:
From reading past posts, I believe sunroof tunnel-mode is disabled in 2002 *North American* models. This also reinforces my theory that there is a menu selection in DAS that can enable the function (like the 3-chirp lock).

If I get a chance, I will hook my car up to a DAS and see if I can figure something. This would probably happen on Saturday at the earliest, if I remember.

But I don't think the one-touch close will work. Isn't there only one position on the switch for closing it? If there isn't a second position, it won't one-touch close.

EDIT: I don't feel like searching right now. Can someone remind me which control module has all these settings in it?? Is it the rear SAM? I don't need all the steps, just which module to look at.

You're probably right. The idea we kicked around was to install the overhead console from a sedan and see if that switch enables one-touch with the pana-roof. I'm willing to bet it does. However, no sedan folks were willing to divulge the part number from thier switch console.

i'm not sure why your poll question is directed only at 2002s but then you go ahead and include 2003s in your choices. just givin ya a hard time. my tunnel mode works fine. (2003)

2003, tunnel mode works perfectly pressing and holding the re-cric button, both closing and returning the windows the open. It even remembers what windows were open (or at least as I recall from playing with it in October, its a little chilly here to use the windows/sunroof right now).

For you coupe guys who don't have one-touch close for the sunroof, don't feel too bad. I drove a 2002 E320 Sport loaner for 2 days a couple of weeks ago. The weather was actually warm around here so I opened the roof. When I closed it I was shocked that it didn't have a one-touch close position on the switch. I knew the coupes don't have it but my C240 does, and I can't figure out why they didn't add this to the E -- I'm sure the 2003s must have it. It's a pain to hold that switch until the roof is closed...

'02... tunnel mode works (not sunroof) and returns to original position. I will bring the above link to my dealer and get this enabled. Nice find... Great for shutting everything when you park. I miss this from my SLK... it was great.

Hey... do you think they can get my roof to fold down too?

Went to the dealer today... put the 'C' on DAS, click, click, click and Voila.... roof now works... also removed the annoying reminder that I don't have the overpriced MB phone option in my car. Great... it is nice to have... this should have been factory enabled instead of costing $25.00 at the dealer, but, thats what I get for living on the bleeding edge.
