M271 6 Speed, VS M272 6 Speed Manual, are they the same
Ok did another search, I found plenty of threads that acknowledge the 6 speed exist however my question is, are they the same with the M111 they are with the M272.
If it is the same tranny, did it see any more changes or revisions during the facelift? Also who makes it, in both my Volvo S40 T5 and my SVT Focus it was getrag, and It was super, this reminisces to me of those trannies but I didn't know if it was MBs own design or if it was outsourced but built for them.
I love how it shifts, however its a bit "notchy" and I know I read the thing requires Syn gear oil or something alike, but is there any way to smooth out the shifts? My subaru (which they are infamous for garbage feeling manuals) we just put in a STS and syn fluid, and it made it like butter...any such luck with these, and if so what fluid?

They are the same. Even the gear ratios, which is why 1st is so low. It was originally intended for the C240. For the 2005 facelift, the linkage was changed from cable to rod to give a better feel. It is made by Mercedes, one of the few companies that still make their own transmissions.

The 2005 M271 and M272 transmissions should be identical. But like was already stated, the M111 transmission was revised for the facelift and is (I've heard) "much better" but still not perfect.

What does "revised entail" I know its a notchy 6 speed, however you said the clutch pedal sucked, but every one I let drive it says how easy and great the clutch is on the car, I dont ever get any 1st or 2nd gear grumbles like I think I herd you refer to. Besides being notchy it seems quite nice.

Can you point out to me where I said there were 1-2 issues or that the clutch sucked? I don't recall ever saying either of those things. I've actually never driven a C-class 6MT.

I think I might have you and our south african friend confuses, I think both of you are an awesome proverbial book of C class knowledge, it wasn't meant to offend.

No offense taken. I was racking my brain about that.. I really haven't driven a 6MT C-class but I'd like to. I think it would be so much more fun that way!
Yes, Glyn is no fan of the manual in the W203 or W204.
