If so, could you please advise so that I can "point" the dealer in the right direction? Any other info would be appreciated.
This is the technician response on the work order: "Removed upper control panel. Checked for voltage at microphones. No voltage present. Removed lower panel in trunk. Found connector for microphone plugged into the wrong connector. Unplugged and reconnected the proper way. Universal portable CTRL interface connector one was improperly connected."

It is poor design to make it possible to plug into the wrong connector. Each connector should be unique. Alternately, the cable length should prevent plugging into the wrong connector. MB missed on this one.

It may be worthwile to take a peek in the trunk to see if the same problem exists. It seems likely that the factory was building 'em wrong for a while. People like me, who were waiting since July for the MB V710, were unable to discover this fault until this week.

Thanks, Wingless...I will print this and take it with me Monday to the dealer. I already dug around in the trunk about a month ago and almost got myself in trouble. I started unplugging componenets and next thing I knew I had an SRS error on my MFD. Went away when I re-connected everything, but decided to stay away from the trunk! Anyway...it should all be solved Monday (FINALLY!).

The V710 handset has a very cool voice dial feature, no training required. Has anyone figured out how to use this when in the cradle?

The V710 handset has a very cool feature that displays an image of the person calling. Has anyone figured out how to get this image to be displayed on the COMMAND?

FYI, pressing and holding the COMMAND TEL pushbutton shuts off the handset.

FYI, with the telephone menu selected on the instrument cluster, pressing the off-hook steering wheel pushbutton brings up the most recent on the last dialed list. The up / down steering wheel arrow pushbutton scrolls through the list. Pressing the off-hook a second time dials that number.

FYI, with the COMMAND set to display the phone directory, the numeric keypad scrolls through the address book, press 7 once for the P listings, twice for the R listings and so forth.

FYI, with the COMMAND set to telephone functions, pressing and holding keypad numbers 1 through 9 activate those speed dial numbers.

I spend a fair amount of time on the phone while travelling. I can honestly tell you that while the initial investment the in phone install is a bit pricey, it is by far the most used and convenient feature in my car (in my opinion). I would also recommend the voice control system (VCS). In addition to controlling the phone system by voice recognition, it also controls many of the other audio features. I will consider the entire system a mandatory option in all of my future MB vehicles.

This is not an option on the '05 C-Class vehicles. But you and inFiniTE LooP have vehicles where this is available.

It sounds like they've fixed this. What did they find?

UHI Cradle.....Any new ones?

ok, i hate my phone and ive come to the point where i am getting ready to throw it away. it is literally a car phone at this point. it never leaves the cradle. what cradles are available either now or soon for UHI.

i really want to get the SE T710a, but is there a cradle available now or soon?
i heard there might be a cradle for the Siemens S66, which is a better phone than the SE T637, but not really all i want. im considering dropping the UHI for the MikBox if i cant get the phone i want. im very particular about cell phones and a gadget freak and the SE T637 just doesnt do it for me. any ideas, help, comments.....

steve, dean, wanda.......help!

Usually, someone who calls himself a "gadget freak" doesn't usually go for Motorola phones. But if you want a Motorola phone supported by MikBox, you may want to go that route.

UHI isn't really a good choice for someone that is a "gadget freak" because Mercedes phone systems are intended for people who need business-class performance (good sound quality, reception, etc. although the sound quality is much better in cars with the 4-microphone array). Since the Nokia 6310i phone was the "Mercedes phone" for so long, you can see that solid business-performance is much more important to most Mercedes owners rather than "cool factor". And UHI phone support is pretty similar, with the models supported being more business-oriented than anything else.

Mercedes discontined a bunch of cradles for UHI, only leaving a few, so we'll have to see where it goes. I think it may turn into a more expensive way of supporting just one phone, since Mercedes has standardized on the Siemens CX65 to replace the Nokia 6310i.

And the Sony K750i is physically a different size from the K700i, so I don't think the cradle will work. The size difference is ABOUT the same as the difference between T637 and K700i, so there was a new cradle there... I don't think they will all fit.

I would form the opinion that Mercedes thinks Nokia and all the other phone makers are psychotic. They phone makers discontinue perfectly good phones to make more advanced versions they could have made in the first place. What is the average life is a phone these days ? 1 year and then parts start to dry up.

Please turn caps lock off.

This post has information on the MB V710. Another option is from MBenzNL.

Both of these options satisfy the strict criteria that you've specified.

The search feature is very useful and there are hundreds of posts on this topic.

And does the 6230b work OK with it? I've read on a forum somewhere (here or on Benzworld.org) that the UHI electronics have problems with the b version of the phone.

What is your experience? How about the experiences of others?

I thought only phones with Mercedes Logo (basically Motorola V Series) are compaitable??

So can I buy a normal V60 phone and it will work liek the factory one, show contacts on my car display?

Yes. Check out the Mikbox unit <http://www.mikbox.com>. This allows most any Motorolla phone to be used with the system. You can also get a UHI kit from Steve <http://www.mbenznl.com>.
