Max Sub size in stock location
I know the stock sub is 8" but I'm looking to put in something larger.
To anyone that has removed the rear deck, how much room is in there? IE if I take a saw to the metal panel and attach the sub to a piece of MDF what is the max size I can fit? 12" maybe larger?
PS I dont want a sub enclosure because I dont have folding seats and I wont sacrifice the room. Besides I can throw enough power into an IB sub to get the job done.

Thanks
I did some research and talked to some people and the pioneer IB Flat is what i came up with too
With some additional modding a 10" might be possible (if its skinny), 2 of them might make it alittle better.
I am sad

ps - you will have to amplify them properly.

It hits down to 5hz, for an 8" I'm sold. It wont work infinite baffle but I'm sure I can rig up a 0.5 cu ft fiberglass box for the rear deck.
My last set of subs were 2 12" Orion's in a 4th order bandpass box, amplification I got.

JL Audio fall into the highly civilised category.
ID subs are used by audiophiles the wold over, as the #1 bang for your buck woofer.
JL makes good equiptment, there will be no debating that, but I'm not a rapper trying to show off the JL logo. In its defense the JL can use 50% more power but for the money I can run 2 ID8's hit lower, harder, and with an extra 2db from running the additional sub. (any more then that is madness on stock everything else)
You need not worry about a boomy system, you see I'll be running a sealed box at .5cu ft. Click that more specifications button on the ID page and behold how flat that Freq response is. Boomy systems generally go with 6th order band pass boxes, or very poorly tuned ported boxes.

JL Audio subs are not expensive when one considers their capability & nothing matches them in car audio.
I will stick with the proven brands thanks - being an Audio Research & Magneplanar lover. I've been down this road many times. Most car audio sucks & more crap is spoken in this area than anywhere else in the audio hobby.
ps. I don't give a rats *** about anechoic or other measurements. I care about sound as I hear it. X Overs are a science all of their own with given drivers. I use Bryston 10B Sub X Overs in my bi amped system & even they are not perfect in my super Maggie surround set up. (MG 3.6's all round)
Good luck with your car sound.

Anyone bolt a proper sub enclosure to the rear deck so the woofer fires through the stock location?

I have the stock system in my 203 (Audio 10 + 6 disc stacker). I gave up on car audio a long while back. I have two large systems at home. One in my little home theatre. That's where I get my high-end audio kicks these days. I help friends with audio in their cars but consider it a hostile environment for sound.
A decent enclosure with a JL sub will work well under the parcel shelf - See JL sale from
