Yes you can. Just need to recode the Front SAM and disable sidemarkers. Once I get around to disabling mine, I'll post the instructions and possibly video is a separate STAR thread.

Karo, I never got the drive you sent, so I downloaded the software. Sorry, I was like a kid at Xmas time and couldn't wait.

Ok, only got a few minutes to try out the software and multiplexer last night. 1st, I had an error with the communication with the multiplexer. With some help from some friends on another forum, I installed all the DAS fixes, and I was off an running.

I was able to fix my driver's side seat that would not go forward enough and easy exit was not working. A quick normalization of the fore/aft position and the seat is working perfect again. My wife should be pleased she doesn't have to really stretch and drive with her tippy toes now

I am going to start a new thread soon with how to's on all the common settings.

With only a little bit of time in DAS, I am amazed at how much information our cars store

@Johnand

Could that be installed on any laptop with serial port or have to be IBM t23 or t30? Would “Serial RS232 PCMCIA Card” be an option for laptops without serial port?

Yes, any laptop. I believe that the Serial RS232 PCMCIA Card would work too. There are many resources now that show you how to get STAR working on non T30 laptops!

Let's just say I tried recoding my instrument cluster to see if I can enable Miles left on tank. and I totally messed up and now I cant change station/track with the steering wheel buttons.

I'm on a roll now. First I mess up my ESP but Eric saves the day by explaining what everything is and now I messed up the instrument cluster loool

Luckily I can fix it, just need to recode it

Be careful John that developer mode bologna is very addicting and dangerous

Yes, and you are absolutely right, it feels like you are getting rear ended on EVERY shift. After a few days, the shifts return to silky smooth. Honestly though, I didn't really see any difference in performance.

John, I have been swamped at work AND home lately, that is why I haven't been on here much lately. But, I was able to sneak in some time, to renormalize my driver's power seat, fix the sunroof, adjust the light sensor, reset transmission adaptations, and read the info on my CEL code 0272

I am proud to say, my seat and easy exit/entry works, sunroof works, auto headlights work better, and found I need to replace the magnet ($15) for my CEL.

Any update on this? I really want some developer mode coding done on my car but no one even remotely close to me has it.

Know you’ve been busy with your new gig and whatnot.
Have you had a chance to retrieve SDS transmission adaptation information?

Mine’s been manifesting some funky shift characteristics of late. Hoping it’s only its giubo couplings.

John,

Yes, the new job has limited my time on MBWorld, but things should settle down soon. So far, I am soooooooooo much happier at my new job.

I have viewed adaptation info for the 7G a few times. I have reset them as well. When I did the transmission service, this last time, I did notice a change in shifting mostly for the good, but a few weird shifts. So, I reset torque converter and shift adaptations and after a few days, the shifts are much better.

John, if you ever need a reset of adaptation data let me know.

Sometimes my shift become horrible and I reset them and it's a bit harsh at first but then gets a little better. Mine is also due for a fluid and filter change. 53k already

A most thoughtful offer, Karo. Thank you.
Going to swap in fresh flex disks as a preemptive measure first.

Sir "splinter" esq. Let us know how the Flex disc change goes please. I have a friend's car acting up & it feels like lash in the transmission which allows a clonk on brisk deceleration when tranny changes down. I need to get the car on a hoist but armchair diagnosis says to me. Flex discs, diff lash, centre prop hanger/bearing. Rear axle side CV joint.

Ouside chance rear engine/tranny mounting.

Mr. Anderson, did you ever figure out the side markers? I remember long time ago I saw the option in Initial Startup where I could have selected non US and it would have disabled it. I can not seem to figure it out. Any luck?

Thanks

No, I still haven't figured it out. I am fairly certain it is possible though. New job has me swamped and in my free time I am getting my Jeep ready for winter. I haven't even washed the Benz in over a month I still haven't got to try the imaging you helped me out on. I was just thinking about asking you another STAR question. Do you know how to add the date to the MFD when the odometer is selected?

I have never done that. Is that possible? If so I can play around and try to figure it out.
