STOCK MARKET

Is it true that cars with OEM stock equipment sells better & worth more than modified cars?

I still have the OEM shocks, springs, and wheels in my shed. I'm keeping them because I read somewhere it's better to return to stock before re-selling/trading in your car...otherwise i will sell it to help pay for my dad's medical bills.

AMD is not technically correct. Expanding your base of potential buyers does not mean that the product is more valuable (ie, selling a $1 bottle of water vs. a new Bentley).

IN THEORY, a modded car is worth more than a car that has no mods. However, finding that exact buyer who would want those exact mods on the car is like a needle in a haystack. But if you were able to find that buyer, the car would probably sell at a higher $$ amount than a stock one.

That's all theory, though - it's much easier to sell a car stock, and modding is never a money-maker.

What you’ve read is true. A clean stocker almost always goes for more, in spite of the coin we’ve invested.

Currently looking for a new(er) truck to replace my tired GMC.
Immediately exclude any of those offered with 22”(!) wheels or other undesirable modifications – most have been thrashed.
I’d much rather tweak 'em as I see fit.

Best wishes on your father’s medical condition.

There are a few exceptions to the rule though...
For example a car with a "navigation system", even if its an aftermarket Pioneer AVIC will sell for much more than a stock car without the "navigation system".
But yeh usually other mods like clear headlights, better springs, engine mods, etc dont count for much.

Modified cars are only valued at their perceived worth. The value that you feel is "added" may not be seen by someone who cares less about mods.
Cars that are left stock have a preconceived or even set/common value.

Take my Honda for example. I was the original owner, purchased it in 1994. Spent well over $40,000 modifying it to completion (twice) only to sell it for $10,000 8 years later. The amazing thing is that I was able to get "more" than I had expected because the person I sold it to did see added value in an award winning, trophy winning show/track car. Did I get he total worth? Heck no. But did I get shafted? Nope.com

Modded cars are perceived to have been raced or trashed in some way shape or form. I steer clear of any cars with mods, but have no problem doing them myself.

some mods dont retract from value...intake, decent rims, HID's, navigation, sterero...stuff like that only helps in most cases...stuff like major drops, ugly rims, stupid graphics or paint jobs, and major engine modifications and body kits are hard to market...
