Mobil1 75W-90
I have not found any 85W-90 gear oil except at autohausAZ or RMeuropean, but for about $28/Qt.
I found Mobil1 Synthetic 75W-90 for about $9/Qt. It's described as limited-slip, with phosorus additives. Would this be OK to use in the rear differential, although MB specifies 85W-90?
I have 88k on the odometer, and think i should drain/refill asap. Thanks.

Drive in figure 8 after differentail oil change
I just drained/replaced the rear differentail oil with 88k on the clock. The old oil was so thick vs the Synthetic M1 75-90 I put back. May be becuase the car was not driven before draining the system?
Also, how do you make sure the vent hose on top of the diff. is working properly? does it need to be cleaned?
finally I read somewhere that you should drive in figure 8 few times after changing the diff oil. Has anyone heard about this?

Figure 8s really only apply if you have a clutch-type LSD. No need for it on our open differentials.

Hypoid gear oil 85w-90 OEM recommended (see your manual). I know its 1.5 Liters for the C55 differential, but pretty sure its a little less for all other w203 c-class models. I bought mine at Autohausaz. Painful at $28 a quart but well worth not screwing up your differential IMO.

Use minimum 235.7 approved oil GL5. Latest viscosity recommendation is 75W-85.

Nevertheless - It does not need frequent changing & you are correct to go with the approved product. I will not recommend otherwise & have someone tell me that their diff has lost pinion bearing preload & developed a whine. Benz uses low friction bearings & they are easily damaged.
