AMP/SUB Installation problem with BOSE Audio Pilot
allthough, the pin 1,2,3 "theory" seems reasonable.... but i cannot do this myself (I not that handy ;-)) .... if someone , with coupé and bose system, feels free to try this, please let me know and post the results.
in the meantime, my search for the bose microphone continues !
http://www.bose.de/product/auto/audio_pilot_tech_2.asp
i also mailed at the german bose division for more info where exactly to find that "hidden" microphone. if i receive feedback, i will post it immediately
so until there is a decent solution, i use the bassbox on gain 5 with 'normal" bass volume, because, i must admit, the overall sound quality of the bose system is very good in my opinion.
but after reading the german bose automotive page, i'm again convinced that the microphone MUST be around the rearview mirror . help me search please ;-)))))))
i have the european C sportcoupe CDI 220. i'm from belgium.
Haha.. sure go ahead and look for it. Let me know when you find it. We tried almost everywhere, even in the a/c ducts still no luck.
Btw below is an email that I received from BOSE.

I believe this information was requested from the after market installer
yesterday. I have a voice mail in to our System Engineer I will reply with
the information as soon as possible.
I realize you have already adding after market components but I wanted to
let you know that Bose Corporation does not recommend adding any after
market components to the factory installed systems they are not compatible
and typically will give you some type of interference with the system
performance.

They did call back to my Audio Installer and told him that they do not support aftermarket equipments attaching to BOSE systems and that the feature cannot be turned off.
And... I'm convinced that a microphone is somewhere... outthere, I only have to find it
AND I WILL !!!!
in german)Sehr geehrter Herr Pytron,
schönen Dank für Ihre Nachricht. Es tut uns leid, daß Sie
Audiopilot(R)
Funktion nicht zufrieden sind,
und diese deaktivieren wollen. Allerdings müssen wir Ihnen dringed
davon
abraten, einfach das Mikrofon
abzuziehen. In diesem Fall würde der Verstärker die Schwankungen
der
Bordspannung als Eingangs-
signal nehmen, und das System würde ziemlich unkontrolliert hin- und
her
regeln.
Idealerweise lassen Sie das Mikrofon an seinem Platz (in der
Dachbedieneinheit beim Innenspiegel),
und überziehen die Mikrofonkapsel mit einem Dämpfungsmaterial -
Heisskleber
-hot glue- bietet sich
dafür an.
Sollten Sie weitere Fragen haben, lassen Sie es uns bitte wissen.
So, in short, it meams that i'm correct, in my european cdi220 C sportcoupe, the microphone is in the road map light area, and it shuold be tempered with foam or tape.
That is what i did, and therefore , wen tape was on the grill, the bass did not have a mind of it's own. (Or at least, the problem was less occurant)
Now, i'm going to seek for a more permanent solution, without disconnecting the microphone, because that is not good according to the german bose technician !
So , after all, it seems not to be a airconditioning sensor (at least for the european C sportcoupe) ;-)
if it works, i let you know
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
i will email again to that technician as he said that, if further questions, i could mail him directly.
>the audio installer said that he could follow all the wires from the bose amp until he finds the microphone, but that , of course would cost me a fortune ha ha ha.
if a get feedback I'll post it again
Dear Mr. Pytron,
Thank you for your note.
I am sorry that you have not found the mic yet.
We have checked in our demo car and realized that there is another
possible
position for the mic. You have to dismount the lamp unit and there are
a
brown and a white cable leading to the location of the mic. You could
use
a finger and feel a 1cm diameter 'hole' under the fabric about 2
centimeters
to the right of the lamp unit toward the wind screen. That's where the
mic
is hidden. You should be able to reach it tracing the mentioned wires
at
the front right corner of the lamp unit.
so, i hope i'll find it now. I will let you all know if i found it, and if covered with dampening foam, if it will give the desired result, that is, no more "Crazy BASS" increases and decreases.
if others feel free to try this, please give also feedback on the result
and... most of all : could you tell me if, when the mic is "treated" with "sound blocking" foam, if the desired effect is there : that the bass can be VERY loud and stay normal ;-)
thanx in advance ;-)
Thanks again wimpytron for the location of the mic.
First, remove the head lamp assembly.
So, Finally this problem is solved, ONCE AND FOR ALL !!
a short summary of the facts :
IF YOU ADD AN AMP / SUBWOOFER TO THE BOSE SOUND SYSTEM THEN YOU RISK EAR DAMAGE DUE TO SUDDEN HEAVILY DECREASE OF VOLUME AND BASS. THEN THE VOLUME FLUCTUATES UNTILL YOU TURN OFF THE AMP OR SUB :
this is caused by the ambient noise that is measured inside the cabin by a bose microphone.
if you have this problem then you have to check the following :
1. The standard Volume Speed Control of Mercedez stock unit NEEDS to be disabled (otherwise it gives problems in combination with the Bose audio pilot) But, with a bose sound system it is already disabled. so, all the "so called solutions" to set SVC to db0 is CRAP !!
2. the ambient noise microphone of bose NEEDS to be DISCONNECTED as described on the pictures
3. then you can pump the volume up, with as much as bass as you like and you can connect 100's of watts or woofers/amps as many as you like to the bose system, no matter what is described on the bose site !!
Keep in mind that this is only a solution if your C class has a bose sound system.
Radical, thanks again for posting the pictures as "A Picture is better than a 1000 words"
