I don't know what was fitted standard on Canadian cars. Are you sure your car had an alarm & siren fitted? If so it should be under the RHS fender shroud. There should also be a backup battery there that requires replacement from time to time - at least on SA built cars.

Glyn is right. You probably don't even have an OEM alarm. My Canadian 2003 C230 coupe didn't come with a factory alarm either. It was optional. Various models and years of Canadian C-class didn't come with factory alarms.
Check on your dash,.... that row of buttons above the radio where the emergency flasher is. Do you have a alarm deactivation - tow truck hook up icon? If so, you have a factory OEM alarm. If not, you don't.
If your car is second hand and the previous owner put in an aftermarket alarm,... good luck finding it.
BTW,... that flashing red light on the radio doesn't mean you have a real car alarm. I'm still trying to figure out the logic that Mercedes-Benz uses to decide not to add a standard alarm for a Mercedes-Benz car,.... but yet add a security alarm for a uselessly cheap radio with a tape cassette.

I don't get it. Why would an alarm system be optional? I guess that solves my question of why insurance companies ask if I have an alarm system.. I thought they were standard on most modern cars.
Also, I found out the other day, BMW's only have the alarm prewiring standard! It's an option!

this is odd.
I have the alarm system. The alarm works on my keys and it rings with it's distinctive sound of an mercedes alarm. 3 tweets to armed and 1 tweet to disarm, even the corner lights flashes.
The part I don't get is, I don't have that tow hook button in the center console.
So what gives? this option is also optional for this year model? 06?

Like I said in the other thread, Mercedes started eliminating this after 2005. It seems weird that some 06s have it, some don't. No 07s have it.

There is 2 possibility:
1. Your have set your alarm to silent mode. You should at least see the lights blink when you armed it. But it should still ring when the doors open.
2. Your horn is broken or wire is broken.

i have an 01 c240 and my alarm has never been audible. It has gone off randomly one time while i was parking, but whenever i lock or open the car it isn't heard. The light function of the alarm works though...I do have the tow switch next to my emergency light button..
