My C's First Accident!!!

I should start by saying that my week, and especially my day, haven't been great. I was driving home from applying for jobs today when I went through a horrible storm. I'm on 441 going about 60, and while changing lanes, the back end gets loose... I tried to correct, but ended up sliding *** first off the road coming to rest on the side of the road down in the ditch. Miraculously, I didn't hit any trees and ended facing forward with a pole 4 feet and front of me, and another 3 feet to my left. The only damage done was a very small scratch (like a sewing needle scratch) on the most inner part of the underside of me driver's side side-skirt. My alignment is even fine. Yes, I had to pay $75 to be towed out, but it could have been so much worse! Just thought I'd share.

I'm confused, neither traction control nor stability control helped?

There is no more gut wrenching feeling then when the back end brakes loose. Good to hear everything's ok.

Glad you're alright! Hope you don't have to do a super extensive clean of your brakes.. but I would do so if you have mud between your pad and rotor! Were your wheels already scratched? Also, look into that front bumper, looks a bit droopy, could just be me!

Nice plant on the inside of your cabin! Fresh air!

Thanks, Karo, you're so nice!!! No, my friend put the sticker on as a joke when I was installing the lights, and no one has noticed until now.

I should add that my rear tires are almost completely bald, which was a major contributing factor, so that's on me. I was changing lanes and accelerating, and once there's no traction, ESP can't help.

Laneshift, I got scared when you said that, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as the picture looks, I guess it's just the angle. This picture's from months ago, and it looks about the same.

Damn Drew! WTF is up with your car, man? I remember you telling me a story about how you were able to spin it on dry pavement once and ESP just gave you a red screen or something. Are your tires okay? I'm not going to pretend like ESP is the be-all, end-all to situations.. but my car's ESP is highly aggressive and kept my car straight during the very icy conditions we had here back in January and February.

I guess you must have hydroplaned.. no traction = nothing for the system to control.

Karo's right, bud - Apexcone stickers = fail. That said, my car sports apple stickers in that same spot and if you want me to post photos so they can rag on me, I will.

Edit: I see your post now. Agh! The 07 rims are so good. I want them.

Thank you everyone for your concern. I did hit my head when the car whipped around, but I was hit harder once when a gnat flew into my head.

You know I'm teasing you..It's a joke. It's your car and whatever makes you happy you should do. Some would call me a ricer with the CF lip and CF wing but that's what makes me happy and it's my car.

I'm just teasing you bro. All in all on a serious tone, I'm glad you are ok. You're a cool dude and I would hate to see you get hurt.

Stay safe out there.

That spin was in my CLK... totally my fault. I completely hydroplaned and there was just no saving me. I think I was still going 60 while sliding sideways with the tail end of my car pointed toward the edge of the road. The tacks in the grass made some interesting braided-looking lines, though.

I've thought that too, but I think these tires are just weird.. they're at the PSI that Merc recommends, they look low, and yet they wear more on the inside of the tread. I really don't get it.

I'd rather you not get banned again. I hope no one thinks I deserved this, though.

Well there is where you've went afoul. 28F and 32R is too low. My car runs 32F and 33-34R right now. I've experimented with it up for 34F and 36R. I am trying to find just the right one.

Cookies? What kind of cookies?

You didn't read my whole post, though... The tires, even at this low PSI, are wearing in the center. I'm afraid to raise the pressure at all. Even in the rear, the outside tread is almost perfect.

Oatmeal cookies! We just got a Kitchenaid mixer, so making cookies is so much easier!!!

I did read it, but I've come to accept this as a reality. Johnand and I were discussing it earlier via PM. He is very tedious about his car and his tires are wearing in the center and not on the outside, too. If you're inclined, leave the rears at 32. Glyn made a point to say in another thread that if you feel your V6 C230 is understeering a lot (something you complained of) you need more pressure in your front tires.

My car wears tires like this, regardless of pressure:

Fronts: Wear on the shoulder.
Rears: Wear in the center

Nothing I do, adjusting pressures, alignments, nothing changes this. I rotate my tires directionally every 6000 miles and hope that makes them last. I got 30k out of my last set and this set of DWS tires is at 14k and looking good.

BTW - Peanut Butter cookies FTW! Oatmeal 2nd prize. Chocolate Chip - FTMFL. I hate chocolate.

I made two batches of chocolate chip in the past week, so I'm out of ingredients. I have been drinking coke with them (regular, though - but I want CHERRY!!!).
