Its a trade off. Higher pressure = less friction = better mileage. You can't have it both ways.

a quarter mile at a time
I'd say your tire pressures are too low.

+1 - And I'm afraid it also depends on tyre/carcass construction & compounding. I get perfectly even wear at 33 psi with 235/45/17 Michelin PS2's front & rear on 8" ET32 wheels.

Car runs most of it's mileage lightly loaded.

235???

Isn't it suppose to be 245? Any advantage of going smaller?

No - standard was 205/55/16 on 7" X 16 ET37 wheels

On 8" X 17 X ET32 wheels (AMG split rim replicas) 235/45/17 is max tyre size to clear front standard Sachs strut. Remember I'm not staggered by choice so I can rotate.

My car wears shoulders on front tires first and center of rear tires first. Always has and I suppose it always will. I've experimented with lots of different PSI configurations.

another factor that can cause the center to wear too fast is using too wide a tire for the rim. it makes the tire tread bow out and wear prematurely. make sure your tires are within spec for your rims

+1

and like others have said...lower the pressure and live with the mpg.
