Thank god, it was indeed the plastic piece.

Here are the remnants of what was holding up the window:

EDIT: Is there another piece to this? In your first picture, there is no round plastic piece, in the second window picture, there is. Nothing is at the bottom of my door..

This is what I've done to solve it. I took out the screw, which probably let the plastic piece become less tense, snapped the window back onto the ***, replaced the screw, and tightened everything up. My window is operational again, though I'm not sure how many more hard door slams it can take before I need to replace that plastic piece. It's already damaged.

Lane - rear doors used to have a 4/5 piece glass clamp including the nut & bolt. Either Benz changed it or someone has been in there before - I suspect the latter. You must replace that cheap piece of plastic. It's going to give trouble again. Check parts at dealer. They changed the material used in later production but it still looks the same. Put a dab of Locktite on the nut/thread.

Lane I'm used to your sort of glass clamp on SA built cars but using better plastic on later models. Some further research tells me that Benz fitted a number of different regulators in some parts of the world. The only way you are going to make sure you get the correct clamp parts is to go to a dealer with your VIN.

This is another variation of the same theme

The options seem to be either 110 or 120 in this diagram depending on the regulator used - you seem to have one piece missing and I have seen some cars with a round anti rattle foam washer against the glass with the 110 arangement

I'm sorry you have to go through all this! I'm kinda glad now that we rid ourselves of our 2001 C240 early on. I must say, the 2007 SL550 that replaced it was a better choice, LOL. I really hope this is the last of your troubles, Lane. Good luck getting it sorted!

Thanks! This problem is actually an easy fix. Just some parts to replace, not too much guess-work. My misfire issue on the other hand..

Lane - Is that kit a replacement for the original?

I'm interested to know if it fits your regulator & glass.

i.e. can you use either parts 110 or 120 in the window diagram.

Has 120 superceded 110?

I got it to fit, but the nut is tightened against the glass. I don't know if it's supposed to be like that. The parts person said the other kind wasn't even listed in his computer. He looked at both c240's and c320's.

Found it in the literature for clarification.
