If you rev the hell out of the engine and drop the clutch you might be able to keep up off the line.

I think that 4 cylinder Benz owners suffer from large complexes!

Actually Glyn, it's the other way around. It's the V6 guys who bash or generally underestimate/look down on the Kompressor models, a trend I noticed from the time I got here. I ignored it for a while but now I respond - this is Negro's thread and he made a statement about my car, I replied, Nate did the same, I replied. If you don't like it that's too bad. The fact is that more cylinders doesn't always equal better/faster - certainly not in the C230's case. Repeating facts does not equal a complex.

- Yes! - There are far more I4 owners on the W203 board than V6 owners. I'm one of the few that has a fairly constant poke at I4 cars mainly at Matt's instigation. He is a predictable I4 lawnmower defender & rises to the occasion I owned a new W202 I4 prior to my move to Australia. Sold it with a mere 5800 Km on the clock (& took to driving a 3.8 litre V6 Aussie Holden Berlina as my company car). The W202 was OK but I vowed never again having owned a W123 280E in earlier years & yearning for that solid, unbreakable Benz feel back again. Loved the old twincam inline six. Wonderful engine & tough as nails.

Well, I had no choice - M111 was the only engine offered here in 2002 on the coupe. Not sure I would have upgraded anyway, though - with the pulley, power to weight ratio is probably fairly close, and refinement is overrated.

Yep! I'm an NVH & refinement nut. The minute you put an aftermarket noisy exhaust on the car all else is mute. Plus the M111 has always responded very well to mods. It's lack of refinement is probably forgiven if you get it to go like hell - whatever floats your boat. I don't like tingle & vibration through controls etc.

I should have been an NVH troubleshooter/developer in another life.
