Brake Pad Wear Visit Shop/ESP Malfunction/ABS Malfunction/Gauge Cluster Malfunction??
Hey guys, this has been happening more and more, so Id like to get an idea of what the part could, be before I go into the dealer expecting it to be a covered part under my aftermarket warrantee (Platinum plan) with a $100 dollar deductible.
Start the car pop the e-brake up usually and then I get in the display
1. Brake Pad Wear Visit Workshop
2. ABS Malfunction (and the orange abs light comes on
3. Gauge cluster malfunction (speedometer stops working)
4. Steering gets super mega heavy like its not assisted at all at any speed.
5.Sometimes I get ESP Malfunction
Odd part is usually if I turn the car off and then back on, it clears it, steering goes back to normal, and the gauge cluster (speedo) works just fine. I know however it becoming more and more prevalent when i start the car, its happening more and more and will need to be fixed.
To me it would sound like a wheel speed sensor is bad, and specifically the one that reports the speed to the dash which is why the speedo dies with it, and I dont know if its coincidence, or not that the brake pad wear light is on, Ive owned the car since 31k, and never have touched the car besides service B and an oil change last week.
Any idea what it could be, Id like to think a wheel speed sensor or something of the like.
Its a M272 V6, 6MT manual C230 and if it matters, I always use the ebrake to keep the car in place, I dont leave it in gear.
Thanks for any help and insight!

There have been several reports on here over the past couple of years of power steering pumps going out on the V6 230s and almost always after one did do-nuts. Have you been? I'm not sure it would cause such symptoms anyway, just making a suggestion. I don't see how a wheel speed sensor would cause the power steering to go out. Then again, I also don't see how failed PS would cause ABS not to work.

Because if its not covered it cost alot of money I dont have and id rather fix it myself, if not covered by my aftermarket warentee.
No do nuts done in my car, just driven normally and daily.
Also the power steering is fine, after I re-set the car, and the lights all go away, but Im equally stumped as to why it co insides with the brake issues VIA ESP and ABS

With ABS/ESP problems, finding the root cause without proper diagnostics (at the dealer or at an independent shop) is difficult and lot of money/time is wasted on 'guesses' by the on-line experts like me :-)
Some times, the most cost/time effective way of resolving complicated problems is to take the vehicle to professional for diagnostics. You'll have to judicate which problem warrants professional diagnostics and which problem can be mitigated by on-line suggestions.
good luck.

It’s likely an easy fix.
Haven’t you participated in sanctioned closed course events? Seem to recall some threads where you claimed to be getting after it.
Most any warranty is null and void after having done so.
Drive mine like an old fart most of the time.
Should it break after occasionally beating the snot out of it, I simply pay the piper for my tomfoolery.

Yes, autoxing shouldn't result in any warrantee issues (though Mitsu was checking out local events when the Evo was finally released to the US, and voiding the warrantees of those who were found doing it).
I don't get why the aftermarket warrantee would not cover this. If not, is it worth anything?

Spoke with them friday, said its not showing up in the computer, I dont get why it isnt, I thought it stored codes?
It hasnt happened in the past 4 days, which is odd. It has rained a ton, here so I am assuming the rain, has something to do with it, like causing a short when its wet, but It happens well after rain as well.

yeah its drivable the steering is super heavy however and it feels like one of the brakes on the wheel is on, so as soon as you go out of gear into neutral to shift the car feels like the ebrake is on slightly, even though ive checked that its popped.

My guesses.....
1, 2, 3, 5 all happening at the same time sounds like a display malfunction. Try pulling the display (easy) and checking the connector for proper insertion and spray some Deoxit on the pins. #4 sounds like power steering pump failure/low on fluid or belt slipping.

If this is an ESP fault - Try turning the wheel from lock to lock 5 times after rebooting to reset the steering angle sensor.
The car should be storing codes ??

Im assuming there is a sticky about rebooting? or is that simply turning the car all the way off then on? And yes from what MB Sar says when she checked, there where no codes stored, and it happened 3 days before it went in, and was started without the issue occuring maybe 7 times or so between the last time it happened and when it went into the dealer, isnt there something with 5 good starts of the car clears the codes, or is that not true with MBs?

Reboot is just turning off - key out - key in & restart. After a number of good starts Benz will turn out CEL for certain functions but should still store codes for reading history with Star.

They called today and said it needs a new ESP module, its covered by warrantee but it wont be in for a few days, so Im driving a nice c350 base auto as a loaner, its pretty nice, so they can take thier sweet time doing what there doing to my car. Its getting an A service, and brake fluid, and an air hose anyways.
