MB Sells US-spec New C-class Assembled in Brazil?
According to the DaimlerChrysler website, some C320s and C240s are assembled in Brazil and sold in the US... "The shortest route between German quality and U.S. consumers may eventually pass through Brazil. Citing a spike in demand and available plant capacity, Mercedes-Benz, the luxury subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler, is assembling 7,000 C-Class models a year at its plant in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, in the state of Minas Gerais, 180 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro, for sale in the United States. In fact, the first shipments have hit the U.S. East Coast already.
“Mercedes-Benz looked at existing capacity worldwide and decided on producing the C-Class at their Juiz de Fora site in Brazil,” says Jeffrey Fisher, spokesman for Mercedes-Benz USA. Initial demand for the C-Class model in the United States, was very, very encouraging, Fisher added, so Mercedes-Benz decided to increase production of the model, albeit in another country."

I saw a 240 and 320 on the dealers showroom that where assembled in Brazil. I think I read that they are building a new plant down there and plan to move a lot more production to South America.

Said mine was made in SINDELIFINGEN, GERMANY / VANCE, ALABAMA, USA . Go figure, my Benz has some good old boy USA DNA in it.

mine not a ML, it's a 230K from AL. Although I would guess that most of the work was done in Germany.

I read that the c-coupes were going to be assembled in Brazil and I was praying that I'd get a true German one.
I lucked out because I got the Sindelfingen tag on my car and the "SINDELIFINGEN, GERMANY / VANCE, ALABAMA, USA" reply from the VIN-checker

In non-M class vehicles the the letter "A" in the VIN indicates that the vehicle was assembled in Sindelfingen. For the M class it indicates the vehicle was assembled in Vance.
The first letter of the VIN is the country of origin. "W" indicates Germany. Vehicles made in Vance would use whatever the letter is that designates the USA.
