Can you identify this part? :)
So I was about to clean my engine bay (spray and wipe before you complain ) and I noticed that this part was broken. After all how hard would it be to miss it? I was wondering whats the name for this part and if any one by any chance has a part number or is there an aftermarket available?
If you could please help, I would be very thankful!

Well I read that the Cabin Filter has major +'s, so I would most likely replace it with the carbon impregnated filter, but in order to do that, I would need the black part to be replaced and I still can't figure what the heck it's called!

Just go to your dealer and tell them you want a battery cover. Theyll be able to give you the part number and the price.

You really want the battery cover to redirect the rain water to the street. The water falling directly on the battery will wash the acid and corrosin onto the sheet metal below. In the words of Indiana Jones, that would be bad, very bad.
What happened to yours? Drop it, or did someone try to remove it without lifting the latches?
The filter that fits this cover is a paper pleated filter. All cars have that. The carbon filter is inside the passenger compartment, and is only supplied on the units with digital display of the temperature. Most cars do not have the carbon filter.

^ The W203 does have an optional activated carbon filter that fits into the same slot as the "regular" paper pleated filter inside that cover. So those of use who don't have the factory filter can still get the air deodorized, though you won't have the option of switching it off. The carbon filters cost a ton though.
Moviela is right. The cover directs rainwater that goes through your hood in that vent. You'll notice there's also one on the other side of the engine bay. I'd be more worried about water getting into the filter, and we all know how well a wet air filter filters air. (a bit TOO well )

No - The activated charcoal filter fits inside the car in the slots next to the fan housing. Only premium models have it fitted. Some cars have blanks inserted. Later cars have this facility deleted completely & cannot be retrofitted. Cars with charcoal filters have the external paper filter as well.
See no 70 in this diagram. Those are the charcoal filters.

Glyn, I understand that for digital Climatronic cars, there's a Filter button that can be activated, which activates a secondary filter in the passenger side piping. And of course, all cars have the primary air filter, which is located above the battery under the hood.
What I am saying is that there is also an aftermarket charcoal version of the primary filter. I just searched RM and they sell them for a couple of bucks more than the OEM filter. I'm going to give this a try when my current one goes.

I believe it's part number: 203 835 07 40
I don't want to have to go to the dealership though. It's about an hour away from my house. I was just thinking of ordering it online.
I previously had a bad experience with a family member, so my guess is he dropped/broke it.....
