Need to buy a whole new caliper for 1 steel pin??

I was changing the brakes on my 2002 c240 when I noticed one of the floating pins was frozen. The pins sit mounted in what the Mercedes parts guy calls the "brake anchor". Apparently the little rubber boot (looks like an accordion) wasn't firmly seated, allowing water to get in. It was rusted so I pulled the pin and buffed out as best I could, and cleaned out the hole it goes in. The rust is gone now and I can put it back together with new grease perfectly fine (the boot even seals), except the pin is slightly pitted and not as thick in the center (where it was corroded) as it is everywhere else.

The Mercedes parts guy says it doesn't come separate, and despite it being mounted in the brake anchor, doesn't come with it but instead comes with the caliper ($450). The anchor is much cheaper, of course.

This pin can't be much more than $1 worth of steel, is there anything I can do to get this part and save myself the money? It's about 1mm less in diameter in the corroded center, but I would imagine using it like this would be a safety concern.

What's everyone's thoughts on this?

=.=

Go get one made at a metal shop.
Will take a little time, but it'll save you a whole lot over buying the whole caliper

Or buy a used one on ebay or from Potomac, and keep the rest of the caliper parts in case something similar happens again.

Of course, you could always use this as an excuse to step up to C32 calipers.

Thank you!! I should have known better than to trust the guy behind the counter. I'll be returning my caliper and looking for this pin.

Listen to John - I've never heard such nonesense. Please return that caliper & tell them to shove it where the sun does not shine.

I figured something was fishy when they sold me a part that the pin doesn't even go in to! That's why I posted here before opening the box.

They were just trying to see if you would fall for it and fork out the $$$$ for the whole caliper and not a $20 part. Damn Stealers
