Found 2 problems today. Need help and much info
please help. just wondering if this is a big/serious problem and if expensive
Yesterday when i turned into my garage i found some lite brownish fluid on the ground. i rasied the car and found 2 problems.
1.I found that the cv joint boot is ripped and the grease when everywhere. The boot had to be rip a while back because the grease and went out does not look fresh.
Is this a easy fix?
how much does the cv joint cost? Do i buy the whole new cv joint?
how much would the whole repair cost/estimate?
2.I found the other control arm right before the cv joint (i think that is what is called) has the lite brownish fluid that is leaking/dripping out of it pretty much.
Is that the right named for the part?
what is the fluid thats leaking out of it?
what is this part connect to? the big block thingy?
also is it safe to drive to the repair shop or will i do more damage?
What would the cost to fix this
Did anyone else have a problem like this? What did you do?

It appears that you also have a leaking steering rack. Is your PS fluid level dropping?
my PS/hydrolic fluid that i put in is light green. and it didnt go down.
the fluid that is leeking is lite brownish
thanks for the reply

The fluid on the rack boot looks like used PS fluid to me. If it's coming from inside the boot it is definitely PS fluid.
If it's spilling onto the rack boot you had better find where it is coming from.

14mm hex key for the rear diif drain and fill plugs and 8mm for thr front if your 4 matic (one plug only on front)
as for the boot I have rebuilt cv joints before kits are 30-60 for each end so 120 VERY messy if you dont have a parts washer its a PITA
so for me $280. (PER SIDE) was a deal...and i have the equipment to do the job including the parts washer
no problems with my steering gear yet
but again LOTS of shops will rebuild them call around then google them to make sure they do good work
your cv joint will get worse and worse eventually it will clunlk or grind or both your car will sound like a pice of crap
