ya well unfortunately despite not having parts as of 6pm last night. They miraculously found them and finished the car by 9 am this morning.
Although I called and left messages for my advisor last night and every half hour starting at 730 this morning. Finally, I gave up and called the front desk only to find out he's got broncitis and is out for a few days. Told her I want all work on my car to not happen (still assuming they didn't have parts) only to get a call back 30 minutes later saying "Sir, the tech already pulled your car around and is done."

This is the purge valve - pic taken off the forum. They become noisy with age & a replacement will be quiet. Mine is still quiet after 7 years. SA production cars have the valve rubber mounted to reduce noise. If you can stand the ticking no harm is being done. The purge valve is part of the EECS set up & could be the cause of your code. Don't go rushing out and replacing the carbon canister. Many have been replaced & it has made no difference. If it is saturated with fuel it will dry out all on it's own. If you have an EECS leak then it needs to be diagnosed with a smoke test. It could be something as simple as a new fuel cap being required. There is a complete DIY thread on replacing the carbon cannister on the forum. (Coupe but really the same)
We need to know exactly what codes your car is throwing. The OBDII plug is under a little rectangular flap under the steering column inside the cabin.

Mav, 1st and foremost, find the closest Harbor Freight and pick up one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/can-obd...enu-98568.html
Then plug it into the OBD2 post under the dash and tell us what the code is. That reader will pay for itself immediately.

Well now the dealer is sending a porter up to me with a brand new benz and he's gonna take my car back in and they're gonna try again.
All I can say is that they better not expect me to pay for another "diagnostic" HAHAHAHAHA I will laugh their *** off.

And dear Leonard at MB said they did perform a smoke test which is how they found leaks in my evaporator and the purge valve. So this will be interesting to see what they find next.

Wow that sucks man. how did you pay them for the work. If you do what i do and pay by check i call up my bank and have the do a stop payment (tell the dealer you did this). Then tell them you want a manager involved and your old parts that were functioning fine put back on to your car and then you will pay for what was actually the problem. I have done this before the dealer will yell and scream but they will come around don't worry. The best part is that most of the dealers throw the old parts away so they end up giving you the new ones. Gl man what did they give you to drive?

problem is that they claim that they did a smoke test and found leaks in the purge and the evaporator...

thing is this time I'm just using them to find out whats wrong. Gonna ***** and complain about why if my handler had the flu and won't be in for a few days did he not A) inform his clients (me) and B) leave a voice mail saying he was gonna be out of the office
I called them several times attempting to stop work before they even started and its not my fault the guy didn't come to work, right?

finally got the call back from MB and apparently they're parts dept F*#(*@ up and gave them the wrong piggy back harness. So their guy is on the way back out to drop my car off and pick the loaner up...and best of all NO CHARGE TO ME!!!
idiots....

What? What was actually the problem? A "wrong harness"? If they are bringing your car back to you saying it was a wrong harness of some sort that's their code word for "we reset the engine light".
Expect the CEL back soon. Dealers = worthless.

they did a smoke test originally and found the leaks in the evaporator and the purge valve...and the parts dept gave them the wrong "harness" for whatever which is what caused the light to go off the 2nd time around.

Well this sucks...the same exact problem is happening to my car right now. I brought it in cause of the cel, which revealed a leak in the purge system. He did a smoke test which revealed a leaky charcoal cannister. He said he's seen the necks leak but usually not the cannister..so anyways he just ordered the part and is gonna call me when its in to do the work. Should I not have this done? Btw its an independent mercedes repair guy, whom I've always brought my car too and he's always been fair and reasonable with me. This thread is givin me second thoughts tho.. I hope I'm not wastin my money

well good luck...all i can say is that my car has been in the dealership 3x for this CEL issue. And they still can't seem to find the correct culprit...they've replaced the canister, the charcoal filter, and the purge valve and still going off...now they've had my car for 5 days straight. At this point I've been working with the manager and had him tell me a few days ago that he's gonna work some numbers but he should be able to cover these repairs for me since they basically suck and I have already given them $800 for this to be fixed. At this point I'm really doubting that everything they have replaced so far needed to even be replaced. I mean either that or all of the sudden every fuel/emission component i darn well have nearly decided to crap out all at once lol...FML essentially

FUEL FILLER NECK. It is amazing that all dealers are exactly the same. They all say the same thing, they all replace the same parts and the fuel filler neck is always the last to be replaced (and the real issue).
Unfortunately for you guys you are out of warranty. I got all those parts new under warranty.

+1 - the ability to diagnose sucks. The ******* are all just parts changers.

thats lucky...im mostly pissed cuz i dropped 3500 on the top of the line aftermarket warranty when I got a bonus about 2 years back...and so far the warranty hasn't covered a thing...as soon as I get my car back with the paperwork for my warranty I'm gonna be placing a disturbed call to them...

HAHAHAH turns it it was the fuel filler neck that was leaking.
And for once MB is doing something good. They're not gonna charge me a penny for the work to fix the problem since A) I already gave them $800 to fix something that didn't fix the problem and B) they can't prove that anything they already replaced needed replacing and its already on my car so selavi! (or however you spell it)

ya apparently not that common considering it took them a week and 3 canister replacenemtns not including my purge valve to figure it out, lol
