Yes... I know my car is dirty - please bear with me. It's been raining a lot over the past few weeks.

That said, what is this thing on my car's trunk lid?

It's your Sirius satellite radio antenna. You must have a 2005? I have that version of the antenna as well. They switched to a different antenna in 2006 that was smaller and painted to match your body color.

Ah-HAH!
So that's what it is. Awesome.

I was going to take it off - but that's good to know since I do use my Sirius.

Every time I see someone else with a W203, I check them out to see if they've got one too and I hardly ever see them. I didn't know if the previous owner of my car had some crazy phone option or the like.

Yea it was just for 2005. I'm sure you could possibly retro-fit the smaller antenna in it's place. You would just have to look up the parts and see if you would be ok.

I replaced my big antenna with the more streamlined, color-coordinated version when they became available.

Ok, that is pretty F-ugly. I think the retrofit of the color matched smaller one would be a must.

There is a drawback to removing the SDARS antenna. It is mounted through a 20mm hole that is big and ugly. The hole should have had edge painted by the installer, but most left them bare, and now they are rusty. The paint under the antenna will be darker because the rest of the paint has faded.

I would just leave it alone, get the Sirius free trial and see if you like it. If anyone asks tell them it is a "skate stopper" to prevent kids from skateboarding on your trunk.

I've been listening to my in-car Sirius now for a year and a half or so. I love it. XM/Sirius 1st Wave and Raw Dog comedy get me through the morning commute.
