dont do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the God's honest truth is take the money you would've spent on the warranty and put it in an effing account (maybe even mutual funds)...i'm dead serious about this. Extended warranty's are worth crap.
I bought the top of the line one through my dealership, ran me near $3500. And do you know what they've covered for my car in the past 2 years of having it? absolutely nothing!
So far everything that has gone wrong with my car from sensors to evaporators to emissions stuff has not been covered...even when they say they cover that system they just happen to not cover the exact part that is broke...ive spent near $2k in the past 2 years on repairs that my supposed top end warranty hasn't covered!

If you don't buy the Mercedes extended warranty then maverik259 is so correct. My car came with the Mercedes extended warranty it goes from the standard 50k to 100k or like 6 years. It covered every issue i had with my car and was awesome.

We bought one through the dealer and came out to the best. It covered everything that happened. After the cam sensor issue (where the replaced the harness instead of trying to clean it) and a cracked exhaust manifold, and a few other things, it paid for itself.
I will also say that our experience with the CarMax extended warranty has been good on another car, since the only thing they haven't covered (so far) has been moisture in a headlight.

thanks for the info guys.. just worried about the "after" warranty life of the car.. i intend to keep it.. so far no problems but for some reason, cars (or dealerships) seems to know when to breakdown when warranty is out... its like there's a 'timed bomb' somewhere and everything starts falling apart..

CarMax extended warranty
Just thought I'd share my recent experience. I recently bought a 2005 C230K from CarMax and also got a 5yr/60k warranty for about $2000. The other day, my SRS light went on. I took it to the dealer and they found a cable harness had to be replaced for a total cost of $657.63. The CarMax "warranty" (it's really an insurance policy with a $75 deductible - unless you get CarMax to make the repair and then it's $50) paid for everything except for the deductible and the $20 "supplies" charge (rumpling fee tacked on every service charge). I'm pretty happy about it so far.

For what I can see here in Australia, if you get a 'approved pre-owned' vehicle the warranty comes with the car for 2 years. When its time for me to buy, I'll look for a approved pre-owned car.

Who the cares about "free" maintanence? They've made the oil change intervals so darn long you only get two maybe three oil changes anyway. Big deal. These cars are MUCH more reliable than a BMW anyway so it doesn't hurt my feeling at all.

For those of you who bought extended warranties, most of you will never come close to recouping the exorbitant amount you paid for some peace of mind. My car has been solid and statistics prove (even for a Benz), extended warranties are a bad deal for consumers. I've posted here before, why lay out money on repairs you haven't incurred? Consumer Reports has analyzed this and so have a number of other firms, just stay away from these things, it's a huge money maker for dealerships and warranty companies.

For me, extended warranty is like parachute, you only needed it one time to be worth it but if you needed it and you don't have it, you probably would not need it anymore.

I almost never buy extended warranties. I bought one on a clothes washer because the reviews on all of them seem so mixed. I probably wasted my money on that one.
Time will tell if my extended warranty on my C230K will be worth it. I've had my car for about one month and the warranty company paid $500 of a $600 bill. My warranty for five years cost me $2000. So far it's working out. Hopefully I won't need it any more. We'll see, but if I do, it's nice to know that I'll just pay a deductible and the warranty company will pay the rest.
