Evap - Not Ready
I wonder if anyone might be able to help with this one. I need to get my C230 through emissions to get it registered here in AZ before my temporary permit runs out.
I had the car serviced last week to fix a CEL (P0128 - Thermostat) which had caused it to fail emissions the first time it was tested. Now I've been advised to do the "drive-cycle" before taking it to emissions again. I've been driving it since last Friday but still, every time I hook up my little scanner and scroll through the "I/M Status" section, it tells me everything is ready except "Evap". Yesterday I took it out on a 60-mile roundtrip just for the heck of it and still no luck. I've read a few other posts relating to the entire drive-cycle but none specific to this "Evap - Not Ready" condition.
If anyone has a specific procedure to get this into state of readiness, I would certainly appreciate hearing about it; I only have one more day left on my temporary permit.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Thats a new one on me but we don't have to go for emissions testing - yet! I suspect it is that the EECS (evapourative emissions control system) has not seen enough driving cycles yet - This is a WAG (wild assed guess)

Thanks for the response Glyn. It turned out to be non-critical. For anyone else with similar concerns, currently, in the U.S, the EPA will allow a car to pass emissions if one readiness flag is not set (unless the car is 1996-2000 in which case you can have two readiness flags not set). Was
just going to tell you that.
If anyone searching needs the drive cycle for 2 im not ready and one of them is EVAP
follow factory I/Mreset Ready
Prior to performing this test
- Ensure the fuel tank fuel level is between 1/4 and 3/4 full and
- The engine temperature less than 100°C with air intake temperature less than 45°C.
- With gearshift lever in Park position, start and idle engine for 20 minutes (with no load).
- Note that if after the 20 minutes of idling time has elapsed and no readiness codes were set, consider driving the vehicle for an additional
20 minutes.
- After these 20 minutes has elapsed, turn ignition OFF, wait 10 seconds and repeat this test step again
The evap i/m is notoriously the last of the i/m to get ready
and as you figured out you can have 1 or 2 nr depending on year
