04 W203 has Fiber Optic system (Audio 10)
07 W203 has Non-Fiber-Optic Audio 20 system.
Can't readily swap one for the other without ripping up the entire audio system.

there all fiber optic ones MOST the other is called a different acronym CANbus or ive herd D2B both are fiber optic, just totally different, if im not mistaken, they didnt remove fiber optic on a newer car...
I know some people have done facelifted consoles, check the DIYs

MOST and D2B ARE completely different.
yes, you have to rip apart not just the console, but the entire car to get the proper wiring re-done. they had to rewire the entire car.

Because all W203 regardless of type of fiber optic, are fiber optic, he said that they aren't and that it cant be done, and it has been done on this forum

last time I checked, that was COMPLETELY true. the people who did it had to take the entire car apart to run all the wires.

which is, like I said completely wrong. And again mentioned about them both being FIBER OPTIC, I never said a thing about it not requiring tearing apart the sterio system, I didnt even touch on that.
I dont get what your point was in trying to argue any different.

you're incorrigible. you just failed to mention the other parts of his post which were dead on.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
MOST in cars 2005 and later is a different fiber and a different connector than the older D2B fiber optic signal transport. If you simply wanted to transplant the headunit with the speakers from a MOST car to a D2B car it would be possible if the older car had no cd changer, telephone, tele-aid, satellite receiver, or power amp. The fiber would be dark in that case. There would be mechanical issues with the fit, and changing the HU connector and wiring. The steering wheel controls won't work and the MFD (multifunction display) will not see the HU commands because the CANbus is different. You'd be better off with a boombox on the seat and save the money for a newer car.
Were I faced with that situation, I'd sell the '04 and get a new to me '06 or '07 for a few grand more, with all the toys I desired.

Speaking of douches, Eric couple of days ago I went in a ride in an e92 M3 and that DCT
I feel like a huge douche for even trying to compare it to 6MT
Here is what the DCT will do to the 6MT

To move from D2B to MOST you have to swap out the entire D2B ring for a MOST ring. That will get the audio sorted but you can still have interface issues with the rest of the CAN system
Doable - Yes - but a really major exercise & will get expensive. Have you any idea how many module changes/modifications there were at the facelift - 18
List of new ECU’s or those that have been modified:
• Central Gateway
• Electronic Ignition Switch
• Instrument Cluster
• Electronic Stability System
• Climate Control
• Electronic Selector Module
• Steering Control Module
• Upper control panel
• Supplemental Restraint
System
• Weight Sensing System
• Audio 20
• MCS II
• Satellite Radio Receiver
• CD Changer
• Voice Control
• CTEL Handy Interface
• Sound Amplifier
• Dual System TELE AID
So plonkers! Don't rush into this one with your eyes closed.

Thanks Glen for that detailed explanation.
What I meant to say was that OP can't swap the two stereo systems without lot of work...
(sorry about not being accurate about 2005+ being non-fiber-optic).

No problem pcy - we ALL make mistakes. Heaven knows I've made enough of them myself. You were trying to help & you were basically correct anyway. I frequently read some of my old posts to copy data over to a new thread & I frequently think in retrospect I could have done a better job of explaining things.
