Antonio, how can I know if it will work on my 03 c230K Sport Sedan?

Are they easy to take off and put back on?

Thanks

It's as easy as changing the stereo head unit. session posted instructions to do this in the forum. Pretty much the only tool you need is a long Torx driver.

Regarding if it will work:

It's somewhat of a crapshoot. There are three versions of the climatronic, with parts numbers ending in 05 85, 09 85 and 02 85 (this is also the chronologic order of their release).

The most recent 02 85 (which is all that is now available ordering from a dealer) has never worked when swapped into any car that came with analog control.

The first version 05 85 has worked the best, I've only heard of one of these not working in a C240 - but the same unit did work in a Coupe.

The 09 85 also works in most of the cars on which it has been tried (almost all of which have been '02s), but Citron230 couldn't one to work in his '03 Coupe, however tifosiv122 did get one to work in his '03. My guess is that there is a setting in DAS that can probably be changed to get one to work if it doesn't. Someone posted that their dealer was able to change the settings to get the climatronic to work, however, tifosiv122's dealer spent hours looking thorugh the DAS menus and was unable to find anything.

Then, even if it operates, the unit only works partially, as only the driver's side vent controls do anything. Cars equpped at the factory with Climatronic have an addtional fan unit to control the passenger side. There is no charcoal filter, either. What the unit does add is an expanded range of temperature settings (before constant cool and heat) and the added flexibility for auto temperature and fan control while allowing manual vent control.

It also looks much better.

Cheers, BT

Trench,

So if I'm understanding correctly....If I put the 09 85 unit in a 02 coupe then it will only control the drivers side vent? Is this true with all cases or only some?

Thanks in advance,

The passenger side vents will still work, it's just that the control on the driver's side operates both (just like the analog).

With "true" climatronic the passenger can manually operate his own vent controls. The car still appears to be able to operate them independently when set to "AUTO," just like with the analog, so I'm not really sure why the passenger side won't work - but this has been the case for all of the swaps (perhaps this too could be changed with DAS).

Weird.

Yours is normal, with the analog unit there is one fan speed and one vent distribution control.

With factory installed Climatronic, there are now two vent distribution controls (driver and passenger), but still a single fan speed control. The factory system incorporates an additional fan in the HVAC system, the speeds of these fans can be controlled independently by the Climatronic when set to AUTO. When in manual mode the occupants can't independently control each fan's speed.

I guess having two fans only changes the time it takes to warm/cool each side if the temperature settings are drastically different.

he 05 85 in class C's C240 only blew cold air...in Mark Cummins C230k it worked perfectly (that same control unit).
Class C currently has a functioning 09 85...

Enri007s C240 only blew hot air with both the 09 85 and 05 85...

Besides those two cars, I installed the 05 85 and 09 85 in multiple various 203s without any problems...

Has anyone had any experience with which version of climatronic works bet on a 2003 C240?

Since there are some minor electronic mods on the 03 W203s, I am wondering if latest version will work (02 85) On the 02 85 they corrected the sticking buttons and added up and down red arrows, instead of a solid colored red and blue buttons.
