Stereo Questions for the 2003 C230K SEDAN

This is a 2003 C230K SEDAN

Where are the 7 speakers that come standard(non Bose)? I know there are two speakers on the front doors ( that equals 4), and then there is one speaker on each of the rear doors (that equals 2, 4+2=6), but where is the 7th speaker.

Also how do you adjust the standard automatic speed-sensitive volume adjustment or make sure it is on? Because I cant seem to notice any volume difference.

Thanks

James

the last one should be on the rear deck.

the auto speed-sensitive volumn is not adjustable by hand. the dB level really doesn't change that much when you are driving normally, but after 80mph. you can tell that the volumn is louder. anywayz, i just adjust the volumn myself when i feel it's low.

the last speaker is a 9inch(something like that) sub. Freeair fartcan really..... it sucks. I cut the cables to mine and put two tens in trunk. Nothing wrong with rest of system other than slight distortion from splits @ higher volumes.

Yes, the 7th speaker is on the rear deck. One side is the first aid kit and the other side is the so called "sub".

for non bose? lol...... the head unit is already at it's limit pushing the rest of system.... so I wouldn't exactly think it's a great idea. BTW...... who makes the speakers for the NON bose systems..... just curious.

Frank - yah.... the 9 inch(once again... .5 inch more? ) sub is sitting in a free air application which does add enough bass definition for probably most people. it is the most efficient way of throwing a sub into that car's standard system without having to add an external amp etc etc. IMHO they should have put two of the free air subs in the rear deck but doubt that the head unit would be capable of handling it once again.

oh yah... i don't believe we get the audiopilot thing with standard. At least I have never noticed my head unit adjust volume on it's own etc....

All 203's have Speed Sensitive Volume Control. Only Bose has Audio Pilot.

center channel..

i ordered my car without bose, but as you can tell with my name i wasnt planning on keeping the stock stereo either, i was thinking about adding a center channel speaker with an audio control model 11 center channel amp, do anyone know what is the size of the center channel and if i am able to install an aftermarket speaker if the car came without bose?? TIA

The dealer can set the auto adjustment increment. I believe the choices are 0db (disabled), 3 or 6db, and I think I remember that 6db was the default. I've had my car almost 2 years and I'm still debating on whether to have it cut back to 3db. Unless I have the windows or roof open, it tends to get a little louder than necessary as I speed up. I definitely notice a boost around 35, 45 and 60 mph.

The Audio Pilot is sensitive to ambient sound levels, right? Mine seems to get louder if I open the sunroof.

You'd be surprised to find out how well the dinky dual 6s in my Acoustimass sound...but yes, BOSE has some explaining to do regarding the factory subs- THEY SUCK!

Yes, but less than the speed sensitive volume control. But, it is my understanding that the main purpose of Audio Pilot is to function as a dynamic equalizer adjusting the output of the stereo to compensate for ambient noise in the car.

Bose quality has gone downhill since they began 20-some years ago. Their systems play pure vocal and instrumental music wonderfully. They are able to pick up the instruments many systems cannot. In these times of pop music with a strong bass line, improvments need to be made. But the Bose system is still far ahead of the stock system.
