W203/CL203/S203 TIRE Discussion Thread - Every question on TIRES

Adjusting the castor 1 deg more on the passenger side to 10.4 will stop that drift right on a cambered road. So drivers side will be at minimum spec & passenger at maximum. MB has hammered this into all the tyre shops in South Africa - It works - If you have trouble I can try & scan my alignment set up for you.

Please remember this is for RHD you must do the opposite for LHD

About Castor adjustments:
Mr. Ruck, thanks for the info. I don't think Tire Kingdom is aware of that detail. I am in the States, LHD, I am a little confused. I don't want to walk into their shop claiming something, and then stammer if they question me. Could you specify exactly what the numbers should be for castor on driver and passenger for a LHD car.
Thanks again for the great info.

I have 2 different brands of tires (205/55/16) on my car(2004 benz c240 rwd) in the front and rear. Specifically Fuzion VRi (~10,000 mi old) in the rear and Hankook in the front. I bought the car used and it came with those tires. Now, I want to replace the front tires. I was doing research and decided to buy General Altimax HP tires. I heard that they have good traction in dry/wet/icy conditions. Now my questions:
1. Are General Altimax HP tires good?
2. Is it ok to have 2 different brands of tires on the front and back (which is what I am having right now).
3. If I have to have same brand on all 4 wheels, which one will be good, General or Fuzion?
Please help me. I am stuck deciding... It snows moderately in my place. So I would like to have good set of tires for this winter.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s)!
2. yeah you should be fine
3. person choice with be general for a decent performing economy tire. Performance would be goodyear f1 summer tires or michelin ps2's.
You can go to the wheel and tire section. They have pretty good recommendations on there.

On our shores Dunlop are having more trouble in this regard than Conti/General. The UHP seems the most troublesome in the General line
Interestingly the Conti & Barum brands are made in the South African plant & the Generals are imported

i had more trouble with my pirelli's i bought. The tires had a defect..where the car would keep leaning to the left even with balancing, alignment, moving the tires around. i just learned to live with it..i'm never buying them ever again. I remember they were made in turkey.
Are you sure about the imported part? i could've sworn the set i had said made in south africa.
the other alternative would be falkens.

Nothing called General made here anymore for passenger cars - Only 4X4 tyres

thanks,

Thank you!

Ruck, does "run out" has anything to do with directional tires?
mike
there isn't really anything wrong with running two differnt types of tires...people do it all the time - just spend a few hours at a local tire shop and you'll see what I mean

personally, i have a pet-peave about different tires on one car, it's the OCD side of me...
but seriously, as cheap as General's are, why not jsut spend the extra $150and buy all four? or, with 10k miles on the Fuzion's, they should still have more than 50% tread left...so if you're strapped for cash, just by two Fuzion fronts.

I just got 2 new ones on the rear.
Still had 5/32 left on my Bridgestone RE050A PP's on the front amazingly.
I just got back after driving 2K miles with my old Exclaims on the back.
(2nd set of rims, ordered tires but they didn't come in time)
Even after getting them balanced along the way, the car still shook and vibrated. They are crap.
Now, with my AMG rims back on the car, new Sumi's on the back and same Bridgestones on the front, it rides and drives like a dream.
Tire rack did a comparison with the BS RE050A PP's to Michelin PS2's they were very close...
and the new Sumi's they tested against the BS's head to head and the Sumi's won by a couple hundreths of a point, at a fraction of the cost of either of those tires.
Sumi's are the best bang for the buck right now.
Fuzion's were the sheit a few years ago. I had several sets,
the Sumi's ride so much better while maintaining awesome grip and handliing.
And I had PS2's as well that came on my current rims.
I'd say the Sumi's are almost if not just as good.
Quiet, excellent ride, handling, grip and even work well in the rain.
Perfect.

tirerack.com is good place and a sponsor.
But I like the Sumitomo HTR ZIII's.

While I am a Michelin person - I fully accept that Sumi make a nice tyre if you get good ones. The Japanese Dunlop plant has always made great tyres.
Let us know where your Sumi's were made.
You've had crap with Exclaims which is the South African experience. TemjinX has no such problems - It's luck of the draw.
