If it's a Sport, you will have to hunt for rims that clear the front brake calipers. The offset in the manual and the offsets listed by the tire vendors won't necessarily help. I learned that by trying to get a cheaper full sized spare. I ended up with another OEM rim. If I had to do it over, I would have measured the OEM rim from every angle and asked the vendors to do the same. I'd mail them a cardboard profile of the inside if it would help. There are lots of nice rims out there for decent money. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback guys I appreciated. I am at the shop right now getting my tires put on. I decided to replace only the back ones for now because my fronts I think have 5k more miles left on them so but for the back ones I got the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and I'm getting an alignment done as well and all of this is putting me back a cool $500 bucks. I went and asked a lot of different places and nothing came close to that price. I can't wait to see and feel the new tires. They better be good for the amount of money that I'm paying.

The Michelins you chose are a good tire and I think you'll find they perform well. While they may not be quite worth $500, they will outperform most competitors as for as "All-Season Performance" is concerned. I have the Pilot A/S on all four corners of mine and am overall pleased with them.

i'm pretty annoyed with how mercedes puts different widths on our fronts and rears. esp since these are daily drivers and not sport cars... and i doubt it makes that much difference performance wise with the widths for our purposes. its just more of a pain in the **** than anything else.

unless your alignment's out of wack you don't really need alignment every time you change the tires.

i know what you said. i was replying to the OP's mention that he is getting alignment done.

rotating the tire prolongs the tire life, but IMO I wouldn't want to put worn out tires on the front simply because I do not want to have a blow out on the front when I'm going into a corner OR understeer into some walls.

if one's going to rotate their tires or want to rotate their tires unless you do it every 5k miles there's really no point.

Well this my first time changing the tires on my car and i had done 30,000 miles on them so i just wanted to check it so i could be on the safe side, plus mercedes rear tires tend to wear mostly on the inside so hope the alignment will helped a bit.

rear tires wear on the inside because of camber. without camber arm they can't be adjusted.

I have always been under the impression if the car came staggered, it was not good to go same size all the way around - will create a poor ride. Is this just BS fed to me by the tire shops (Discount)??

yes to the last part.

unless you are talking about true sports cars like the 911, Vette, etc. with good amount of power that needs wider rear to put the power down. however this is not to say that they can't run non-staggered tires.

Time to replace my tires and I'm thinking of having a tire with higher sidewall to reduce the gaps on the front (i like the stock ride height but hate the front wheel gaps).

Can a 225/50/17 work with no rubbing issues? 2005 c230k stock suspensions and rims. Thanks!

50 profile is almost an inch too tall overall. the 235/45/17 is better if you want slightly thicker profile. it also gives you more contact patch.

- ....And I was about to call them and change my order to 225/50/17. I ordered Falken FK452.

With 225/50/17 you will touch on the front of the front wheel arch shroud. I touch now & then with 225/50/16 & stock suspension. You will throw out your speedo as well & need to recalibrate with the STAR.

i had 225/50/16 on my 2000 1.8T Beetle. made a lot of difference vs stock 205/55 size. I miss it sometime because of the turbo woosh and how relaxing it is to drive.

Yes - 225/50 were always an option new in Europe so I fitted them & I like.

Hi Everyone! (my first post)

I have a 05' C230 kompressor with stock tire size of 205/55/16
Winter is coming and looking for winter tires. I saw someone selling some winter tires and rims from a E300 from 98 sized at 215/55/16. I am wondering if the bolt pattern will fit my car and if the wider tire will end up rubbing anything?
