Yes, the 245/45 is taller and will make the speedo less accurate.

the 245/45 will be slightly taller. I still dont think a 245/ will fit in front unless the fenders are rolled

Is that what you want to be able to rotate better, or did you want the wider rears? Because you can do 245/40-17 in the rear and it is just slightly smaller in diameter than the fronts, but wider. This is the rear size on SLK's, CLK's, and C32's.

The 245/45 has a sidewall height of 114 mm and the 245/40 has a sidewall height of 98 mm which is a difference in diameter of 32 mm, or about 1".

The stock C7 tire does 837 revolutions per mile. The 245/40 does 841, but the 245/45 is only 806. The 245/40 won't cause much speedometer error, but the 245/45 will.

Tim, you should get the 245/40. The width is the same.

Yeah I'm keeping them all the same so I will be able to rotate them. Thus I need the 225/45/17's I'll use my 16's as winter set, even though we dont get hardly any snow we get alot of rain. Of course i'll get diff tires for the summer. I have been looking at the Yokohama AVS ES100. From the review I have read on tirerack people like them. I would love to have staggered sizes, but it causes me not to be able to rotate them. Thats why I'll use a spacer to get a little wider look.

If you are trying to get the big wheel look but still be able to rotate the tire, get the 20mm spacer. They make the 225's fill in the wheel well better than the 10mm do .

I have driven some cars with this Yokohama on it and it seems very good. But a good high performance tire gives high performance in the wet and dry, so you should be fine with these in the winter if all you get is rain. I would pack the 16's away or sell them. But the Yoko's are definitely a good choice, and they look good too. Nice looking sidewall and tread pattern similar to Michelin Pilot Sports.

You misread him. He is getting the 225/45, not the 245/45. But i agree that if you are doing 245's, the 245/40 is the way to go.

Yes, I did mis-read it and not just once. That's what happens when I try to parallel process.

...except they require at least 8" wide rims. This means that they can't be mounted on stock C7 (Evo) 17" rims, which are 7.5".

Really? That's good to know. I took some used tires that came off of a CLK430 with 245 rears and I assumed they would fit. I haven't used them yet, but I still have them. I wasn't going to use them anyway because I bought 16's for winter, so my summer tires will now last longer.

rear tire wabble

i have just noticed that my left rear tire wobbles when i driven. to be more specific, it looks more like an uneven tire wear on the sidewall. can it be a result of the alignment (toe) and has anyone experienced this wear after lowering? (i have H&R cup kit)

Wascally Wabble

If your tire is at all out of round or has any bulges on the sidewall or tread, stop driving on it immediately and have it checked for tread separation or manufacturing defects.

It's highly unlikely that an aftermarket suspension setup could cause this sort of thing unless your alignment is severely/visibly out of whack.

uh oh, you've scared me. i realize its a little dangerous, but the strange thing is that i get absolutely no feedback from the steering wheel or seat. if a tire is bulging, will your seat or steering shake?....because mine doesn't. HELP!!!!

If the wheel itself is wobbling, it may be bent, or a manufacturing defect.

the wheel is definately not bent. when viewed from behind, it looks like the tire sidewall has a bulge on a certain area (when driving) but it is very little, say 1/4" to 1/2" most. also, its never been like this before, just happened now. can it be that a new tire is needed?

I think you should take it to a tire shop and see what they say.

I HAVE TO AGREE, AND RESTATE...

...the advice above to STOP DRIVING THE CAR WITH THIS TIRE ON IT is absolutely correct. Get the car to a tire shop ASAP. This is a potential loss of control waiting to happen. Do it now.
