will a 225 tire fit in d trunk as spare tire?

will a 225mm tire on 18x8 wheel fit in the trunk of d sedan???? ( i mean as a spare wheel)

my sedan has a 205/55r16 on 16x7 rim as spare wheel, and i plan on replacing it. im concerned that the wheel n tire might be too wide for the trunk carpet to be placed flat on top of the spare wheel.

Everyone with C7 or SportSedan has had this problem.

Max performance tires have tremendous grip, but also wear out quite quickly.

If you search the forum, you'll find that others have gone to different tires (away from Michelin and Continental), and some of these have given better tread life.

It's a trade-off between performance and life span.

MB even puts a warning in their literature concerning high-performance tires and fast tread wear.

I feel your pain, but this is the way it is.

I'm at 205xx miles on my stock Michelin pilotsport. It's down to the tread indicator at the rear in the center and both inside and outside tread of the front have pretty much gone (I've rotated the front tires). Since it's summer, I'm holding off changing the tires till rain season comes. But it's super noisy now tho...lol

Not sure what do you mean you need new tires already. Can you describe more? also, if you check your front tires, you'll probably see it only wear on the outside tread. If that's the case you can just remount the front tires to suit the directional tires need.

~~Tire Thread~~~

Okay since we all know the stock Continentals are crap. All ready at 16,000 Miles, and they are almost completly worn out. Here is what I want to know. Who ever has diffrent tires on their coupe or Sedan with the C7 rims give me any input on the tires that you have, and if they are better than the continentals. This thread can benefit lots of people. Thanks

If they are rated Z and above, you'll get about the same life out of most tires.
You might want to try Michellin Sports, I've heard they give you a pretty good life, I have these on my car, but they only have 4k miles or so.

I'm going to leap, well maybe just hop, to the defence of the Continentals. With a bit over 7,000 miles, I took 20 measurements of tread depth across the tire and compared them with a new tire. Result: an average of 10% worn. No, I do not expect to get 70,000 miles out of these tires, but 35,000 should be possible. Not too shabby for a Z-rated tire.

I've got the Conti's, with 24,000 miles, and I drive the crap out of them. They're probably good for a few thousand more, so I'm starting to look. Probably won't get them again just because of the $$.

I've always found TireRack's site very helpful because you get feedback from a lot of different people in the survey area.

With my experience oh pilot sports on both my cars they are both very very low life on the rears. My C230 needed them very qucik and my CLK430 at around 12k are just about bald.

ya'll must have a lead right foot... my rears is still looking good

hehe... nah, lets see... for me, my rears have seen about 20,000 miles and they still have about 40% tread left... my fronts had probably around 50+%, but I replaced them cause my SA hooked me up with free replacements...

Are u talking about the pilot sport tires? it must be hard for u to tell how many miles u get on your tires since you've have multiple sets of wheels already!

btw, i have posted it before but i will post it again that i needed new pilot sport tires at 5k on my C230, and i could swear it was something wrong with the tires and not my driving!

Yokohama

I've tried performance tires from Yokohama and they seem to be the best of both worlds. Long lasting, quiet ride, and enough performance for most needs. Check out the tire rack.

My 240 came with Goodyears. I told my dealership that I would not drive a Benz with Goodyear crap. He swapped it with another C that had Michelin MXVs. While there are tires that perform better than the MXVs, they are far better than the Goodyears and Continetals.

no... you are correct, i am referring to the Pilot Sports...

I've tacked on about 20,000 miles on them and they still look great.

I have had multiple sets of wheels on my car, but only for a very limited time.

- I had 19 ADRs on my car for probably under 2,000 miles before it was stolen.
- I then had 18 Brabus Mono VIs on my car for 1 day, but once you go 19s, you can't go back, so I took them off
- I just got new 19 AMG CL wheels on, probably less than 300 miles so far, and my car now has about 23,000 miles.

Therefore, yes, my OEM Michelin Pilot Sports lasted 20,000 miles, and there were still in very good usable condition when I took them off. I wouldn't be surprised if I took it past 30,000 miles on those babies...

well... put it this way... i believe the tires originally come with 10/32mm worth of tread as a new tire... during my 20,000 mile check up, the measurements stated that I had about 5mm left, so about 50% left.

A tire is considered legally bald at 3mm depth, so, you figure about another 10,000 miles...

so, should I add in "tire god" in my title too???

btw, lets talk about brake pads... have you had to change them yet? I still haven't changed mine yet...

i believe brake pads (new) have 9 or 12 mm... during my 20,000 miles check up, I had 5mm left (2 or 3mm is when it needs to be changed)... so those will probably need to be changed within 3-5000 miles

my SA is suppose to hook me up with that too... about $250 to change brakes & rotors... if he doesn't, then I'll get the C32 brake kit... that will look badass with the 19 CL wheels...

LOL, yes please add the tire god thing into your sig 2.

About brakes, i am still on my original brakes on both my cars. When the time comes, If i do not upgrade my brakes to the C32's which i was considering on my C230, i will just go with porterfeild low dust pads and get brembo cross drilled rotors on all 4 corners. Thats if i can even wait that long, (i dont think i will).

I will probally see about the low dust pads on the CLK also and maybe even check if brembo had cross drilled rotors for the CLK since i never even looked.

For you on the other hand, the C32 brakes will look sick with the 19" CL wheels. please do it!

i think evosport carries the cross-drille rotors for the CLK...

yeah, i think the C32 brakes WILL look sick too... i might even go as far as painting the calipers just to give it a different look...

I had ContiSportContact 1 on my previous car, which was a 00 328Ci. The tread was almost completely bold after 13k miles. Now with the C32's PilotSport I'm at 20k miles and still going. There's no change in my driving style either.

This is the tire that I have decided on guys.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....m=245YR7F1GSD3

Can I mount 235/45/17 on the stock C7 wheels? or should I just stick to 225?

Thanks in adavanced

My 2003 230 sedan came with the Continentals but they are W rated instead of Z. Did anyone else have this happen to them? Also what kind of difference in tread life should I expect from them? Thanks.
