Check out the Sumitomo tires. They are priced right, wear well, handle well and are quiet according to the feedback on Tirerack. I thought about getting Kumho but the reviews weren't very good. I would get the Bridgeston S03 but they are a little pricy.

I have put together a handy tire/wheel size calculator in Excel.
If anyone wants it, I can e-mail it. If I have time I can make it into a web page.
Basically the idea is to figure out what tires to use so the overall tire diameter is as close to stock as possible.

To figure out a combination, just multiply the first number (i.e. the 225 in 225/40) by whatever the % ratio is (the 40% in 225/40) to get the sidewall height. Try to match as close as possible. 225/40 is 90mm, 255/35 is 89.25mm. 235/40 is 94 mm, 265/35 92.75mm, etc. Just find the combination that is correct for your wheel width.
EDIT: As VoyagerDude said, make sure its as close to stock as possible, otherwise the speedo will be off and you might end up lifting your vehicle!

I already put them back on, then took them off again, but I'll be ready to go back to summer tires in about two weeks. I don't think there will be much more snow this year. I hope not anyway.

I made the mistake of putting my C7's back on a few weeks ago. It hadn't snowed more than a half inch all winter. And we got weather into the high 50s, so I thought, what the hell, and put em back on. Three days later, we got 6 inches of snow in about 2-3 hours during rush hour...what a treat that was! The 16's are staying on till April now!

Tire Sizes
I am thinking about changing my wheels and I was wondering which tire sizes would make the car handle better but not sacrifice too much in the comfort departmen...oh yeah and what would look better.
The choices I am thinking about are:
215/45/17 Front
225/45/17 Rear
or
225/45/17 Front
245/40/17 Rear
I am afraid if I go with the second option that the tires would stick too far out.
Any input would be appreciated and I thank you in advance

The second option is the way to go as far as fit. Most of the MB models that run staggered 17's run these sizes. 225-45 and 245-40 are very close in diameter, and this is very important for things like ESP. You will have problems if your tires are a different diameter.
Also, remember that if you do a staggered setup and get directional tires, you will not be able to rotate them at all, unless you take the tires off the rims and re-mount them, and even then it is only side to side.

Why not just get 225/45/17 all the way around and get a set of spacers for the rear to get the staggered look you want. That way you get the staggered look and performance edge. You will also be able to rotate the tires.

Factory Specs
For a staggered setup: (Factory C32)
front 7.5 x 17 ET37 with 225/45 17R
rear 8.5 x 17 ET30 with 245/40 17R
For the same all around: (Factory Option)
front 7.5 x 17 ET37 with 225/45 17R
The CLK430 uses the same setup. You can go to MBUSA.com and check out the accessories for each model. It will tell the sizes and offsets for each.
