Ok...I am adding 2 more tire types into the mix since I just found some more in my price range - thanks again in advance to all that are helping me make my decision.

Pirelli
PZero Nero M&S 400 AA A
(Ultra High Performance All-Season)
Front $137.00 23 lbs

Rear $170.00 24 lbs

BFGoodrich
g-Force T/A KDW 2 300 AA A
(Ultra High Performance Summer)
Front $141.00 28 lbs

Rear $182.00 26 lbs

Both of these have a rating of 8.3 for the "would you buy again" question... - The previous tires posted are all in the 7.0 - 7.6 range...so I will probably just pick between these 2

But aren't those max performance summer tires contrary to your other post?

Umm, no. I left off the M+S label on the P-Zero Neros.

Anyone use Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (all-season) tires?

We're looking to buy a set of these to replace the Michelin Pilot Sport summer tires on our C320 Coupe. Has anyone here had any experience with these tires? Please post. (I'm not trying to start a thread about your favourite tire - just looking for some comments of users of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S )

They get very good reviews on TireRack. According to the user ratings, they are, as expected, very slightly worse with cornering and dry traction, but better with all the other aspects, including a tire wear rating of almost twice the Pilot Sport summer tires.

BTW, Costco has a $60 coupon on a set of four Michelins for about two weeks, ending early in November. With that and TireRack's shipping charge, Costco works out around $80 cheaper on a set of four of these tires.

Kar don,

Thanks a lot for the info - your post reminded me that I had read something about that. I noticed the TSP title in the list on this forum.

Does anyone have more details on this? Like the actual TSB?

Thanks again!

I've done some research...

I eventually decided to pay for access to MB's technical info (Startek), and got the following info:

Please be advised that DTB P-B-40.10/43 no longer applies to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires with a production date of 23/04 or later. Michelin has modified the construction of the Pilot Sport A/S as of production week 23/04 to improve vehicle tracking characteristics.
...

MBUSA will not perform warranty wheel alignments on any subject vehicle which has any non-approved wheel/tire package installed. For any question as to approved wheel/tire packages, please refer to WIS and EPC
So it looks like there isn't a problem with the tires. The info above is from a TSB that replaces the original TSB, so they don't have the original TSB available anymore, so I can't tell what the original problem was.

However, as these tires are not officially supported by MB, they won't do warranty alignments if you have them fitted. Since we've only got 8 months of warranty left, I'm not going to worry about that for now.

I picked up my car on 12/30/04, being in NY, the stock Conti's needed to be changed so I put on The PS A/S. They were pretty good, I liked them. I only got stuck in the snow twice with them, both times pulling out of my drive way (neighbor threw all the snow from his driveway right in front of mine). They had descent treadlife, but I'm a little hard on the tires. The only problem I had is that they were pretty pricey. $1100 mounted and balanced, with road hazard ($100). And the dealer did align my car aftergetting those tires. I told them it was pulling to the right, and they aligned and fixed the problem.

I picked up a set of four today at Costco for $700. This includes 5% sales tax, and a $60 rebate that they're running at the moment. My dealers asks $20 per wheel for mount & balance, so I'll have them do it on Monday.

This is about the same price as the OEM Michelin Pilot Sports.

I'll post impressions after I've taken them for a spin. I don't have any intention to go driving in the snow, but sometimes (once or twice a year) we get some snow/sleet/freezing rain and I don't get out of the office before some of it sticks. I'm sure these tyres will be much better than the summer tyres.

Question about tire sizes, help please...

Sorry to be a newb but I've never really purchased new wheels/tires for a car and really don't understand tire sizing and knowing what will fit on which size of a rim...

My rear stock rim on the passenger side got attacked by SOMETHING and now I'm needing to either replace that individual rim or buy 4 different ones...

I'm currently looking at purchasing a different style of MB wheels from an 03 C230 (stock and also 16") but I;'m wondering if I'd just be able to swap the tires from my old stock rims and put it on these new ones...

The tires which were on the new rims are 225/60 R16 and the tires I currently have are 205/55 R16... Would this work?

Thanks in advance.

You could do a thread search to find the dozens of threads where this subject has been previously discussed.

Or you could go to a site like Tirerack and read on the subject there.

Or someone will pop-in here and attempt to explain it to you....

Tirerack has good explanations of what everything means. Very good suggestion.

I always found this site to be helpful to see if tires can be swapped:
LINK: Tire size calculator

Now, for a brief explanation of how tire sizes work, if we take your example:

225/60R16

1st number (225) = width of the tire
2nd number (60) = height of tire from wheel (also referenced as "series" - i.e. 30/35/40/45/50/55 etc...)
3rd number = size of rim height

Using the tire size calculator, the tire swap would throw off your speedometer. What's strange to me is that the tires on the '06 230 SS are wider, but higher profile than your current tires. Typically, when you have a sport tire, the profile of the tire would be smaller. In the example you gave, the sport rims carry a higher profile tire than your stocks.

Need help on 18" tire sizes

I'm going for 18" rims 8.5J for front & rear. Any recommendations for tyre sizes? Understand that the rear tyres should be broader bcos Mercs is rear wheel drive. Can we use same size for all round?

What brand and model do you suggest?

Tks to all...

Why don't you search the forum. This question has been asked, and answered, numerous times. On top of that its quicker than waiting for an answer.

For 18*8.5 I would go with 225/40 at front you may go for 235/40 but it could rubb witht he fender and slowed you car down a little. However the rear you can go a bit bigger depends on the wheel size you have for the rear if it the same as front then you should get the same size as front. It is much easier to live with for example tire swap or rotations etc. But if you like to look good then bigger wheels and tires in the rear 255 or 265 should do it.

Many tks Raklert for your input. I was recommended 225 for the front & 255 for the rear but i'm not sure if this is correct since this my 1st Mercs. I'm just learning as i go along.

Your ride looks fabulous! Cheers!

So the dealer shreaded up one of my new winter Pirelli Tire

I went to my dealer today to get a alignment and to have 4 new Pirelli winter tires that i bought from tirerack.com mounted and balanced on my stock 17"s. I get a phone call sayin that the tire somehow got caught and it got shreaded up... the dealer will send me a new one but the thing is i'm goin back to college this sunday. I have too much crap in my car to bring the other tire up. Right now 2 winter Pirelli tires are mounted in the back and the 2 fronts are the stock Eagle tires. I have stock 17" rims. My question is will my car handle weird?? Will this mess up my car??? I will have the other 2 mounted when i come home again for the winter break.

Thanx

sorry this is so long

I went to several tire shops and all said that we had to stick to one type of tire. One shop mention about the bad effect on the breaking system if different types are used .
