How many miles on stock Michelin 16" tires?

We've got about 25K on our's and the dealer said they need replacing
I realize driving style has alot to do with it, but I expected more. Anyone have more than 25K miles on their stock 16" Michelin's?

I lasted about 15K before I could no longer stand the squealing of the MXVs. The tires look as though they will last indefinitely. They're in my garage, cheap.

Do the *penny test* yourself. Then make up your own mind. You know about them stealers, don't you?

My first set...

I had the Michelin Pilot Sport HX on the 16" via the 2002 sport package. They lasted me with tire rotations and stuff, about 35K. I could have gone longer but I went to Mammoth and burned out my tire on some pieces of wood and cardboard trying to get out of the snow. So i have two shot tires, and two alright condition ones. I then just went ahead and got 18's with Yokohama AVS db.

Wow - only 25k on the stock 16" tires? These are the regular, non-performance kind, right? I'd expect about 50k out of regular run-of-the-mill tires.

Or I guess they're "luxury tires" with shorter treadlife?

Hmmmmm?

I just passed 44K miles. Yeah, I drive a lot, and it's all highway. Does highway travel cause less tire waer? There's still a lot of tread left too......

Flat Tire Help....

guys,

my tire hit a nail and it was leaking, what do you suggest to do?

I took it to the nearest tire shop and the guy plugged the hole with some kind of rubber and he claimed it will last for the life of tire. (no need to replace).

I have Service B scheduled for tomorrow actually. Is it safe to drive it? (at least 0.5 hr away from my home)

Also, should I have it replaced at the dealership? If so, how much does it cost usually (16" standard) and do I have to replace the other side too? (for balancing purpose)

please let me know...thanks

it should be fine as long as it's not on the sidewall

Yes, that is the sidewall. As long as the hole was on the tread and not on the sidewall, you have nothing to worry about. Plugging the hole works very good.

I hope you mean you run 235/40/18 not 20. I dont even think they make 235/20/18.

Anyways, i dont think it would look too staggered. I dont recommend it. It might actually just look funny because your rim is the same size all around. If you had custom rims with custom offsets then you can get away with it. Also, I dont recommend anything bigger than 245 on a 8" width rim and thats pushing it.

I say maybe 255 from some brand. One of my friends that has the 99 SLK230 sport managed to put 245/40 on his stock 17x7.5 front rims.

yeah..i want to run staggered too in my 18x8 rims with 225/40r18 all around but i dont think its a logical idea since d rims r d same width. b4chow, wat about if we just put on rear 10mm or 15mm spacers? would it look good???

if i put spacers, i'm scared my rears will rub with my fenders... i have the cupkit and there is a little tire tuck right now, besides i don't like the spacer look....

This would be a much better choice than different size rubber on the same size wheels. It would also allow you to still rotate your tires while still having the staggered look

BRIDGESTONE POTENZA S03 18 IN TIRES Four max performance 18" tires 245/45/ZR18

can this fit on my c240?

i am working in a deal for those tires and 4 carlsson 2 peice 5 spoke rims.

kimchi,
I'm sure the TIRES will fit; but I think the bolt depth is deeper on a S Class. Search around in Wheels, Tires, Suspension & Brakes

the tires will fit, but no recommanded for the front. The S-class rims has different offset than the C-class. You might want to ask BEN/Mach430 from Evosport.
