Costco was the most expensive place to get tires when I set out yesterday to find tires for my kid's Mustang, about the same size tire used in the C230SS. They wanted over $1,000 for 4 Michellins, don't even know which ones and $800+ for Bridgestone RE750 which cost me $650 about a year ago on my coupe.

Sears has Michelin on sale this week.....hit the net....thy'll match prices in your area. Also, check their ads and call the store for availability...MVX Energy and a few others are listed.

Black c 230 Kompressor Sport Sedan
Michelin
I think i am going to stay away from Michelins this time. My stockers were Michelins and at 17,000 miles they are close to being bald. Maybe I'll try Pirellis.

Stay away from Pirrelis on our cars, they tramline really bad. On the plus side they are cheaper. I was happy with the Bridgeston Potenza RE750 that I got when Pirrelli refunded the P-Zeros.

How about Bridgestone RE750?
Buellwinkle,
Thanks for the heads up. How about Bridgestone RE750? Also, when i went to tirerack.com it listed 2 tire sizes for the c230 SS.
Original Equipment Front 225/45-17
Original Equipment Rear 245/40-17
i understand this is probably the staggered setup. i checked my current set up and i have 225/45-17 all around.
my question is.. what is the widest tire i can fit on my stock rims?

I just used the factory 225/45-17. The logical next step is the 245/40-17 but I don't know if it will fit right, may look funny. The staggered setup is for the 2004 and newer sport sedans where they went ot the staggered setup.

2005 C230 Kompressor sedan
So staggered tires means no rotation ever?
I have the sport sedan and staggered tires on my C230. I just recieved a pamphlet in the mail from my dealer saying I am entitled to a free rotation up to 6500 miles. So do I ever have to do anything with my tires but check air pressure and change them when they are bald?

Directional staggered tires can be flipped. Unmounted and remounted to the other side of the car.
LEFT and RIGHT tires can't be.... two different things

WHOA, wait'a'minute...I just took my car in for service cuz it pulls right and they swapped front left to front right!!!
They said that the "Front tires are Scolloped" (What ever that means).
Do I need to bring it back in so they'll swap back front left/right???
PLEASE HELP!

Explain plz.
Like the Pilot Cup's, have little things on the outer edge, if you just MOVE it to the left side, it'll be on the inside edge and won't be proper.
If you flip it, then the treads are facing the opposite direction.
I am confused.
Help!

Then there is a directional tire. This is one where HOW you mount it on the wheel maters. So, you can take a directional tire, dismount it from the wheel, FLIP IT, effectively changing direction it will turned, and move that tire to the other side.
Left and right rear wheels. You basically turn them inside out... if you just switched them, the tires would be the wrong way, if you dismount, and move it over, it still turns the same direction, but it on the other side of the car....

Tires are either
1. Non-directional/non-inside-outside, or
2. Directional, or
3. Inside-outside
If they are non-directional/non-inside-outside, you can swap them left/right.
If they are directional, you can swap them left/right if you dismounting/remounting them on the left/right rims.
If they are inside-outside, you can swap them left/right.

If the tires are asymetrical (Pirelli PZero Neros are asymetircal), then they will have an outside stamped on the outside of the tire. These can be freely rotated side to side. If they are asymetrical and directional (very, very few tires are), then they can't be rotated at all.

And what does "Front tires are Scolloped" mean?

Well, they actually swap the Rim from L-R & R-L. I notice it cuz my front right rim has 2 scratch marks and now it's on the left.

I think it's funny that MBUSA is sending this reminders in the mail telling owners not to forget to rotate their tires, when they've been putting staggered wheels on the C-Class Sport Sedans Coupes since 2004.5.
My wife got one in the mail the other day too, and I just laughed.

I have no idea, but i know they're Michelin tires.
Go look at the side walls. If you can see little arrows and they point in the direction of wheel travel (going forward of course), then they are fine.
If they are pointing the opposite direction, bring them to the tire shop to have them swapped.
