HOW DO I REPLACE BELTS ON A C230 COUPE?
Hey guys! One again I bought a used MB that i thought i got a deal on.. LOL.. ANYWAY, How do I remove my belts? Its 2002 c230 coupe. I bought my car as is and got screwed bad!! needs a rear SAM, tires, alternator, and belts.... Sam on order, tires done, alternator done, but the belts happened afterwords and the same shady dealer that sold it to me put the alternator in without telling me about the belts.. long story short im low on cash and need to do it myself..
I have found a few DIY'S but they are unclear to me and have variations of procedures.. With so many makes of MB I dont want to follow the wrong instructions.. Its to cold out side to be guessing so someone please help me out!!!

ok, we just turned the bolt towards the left (facing the car) and were able to remove and replace the belts.. Is there a special way to reposition the tensioner? My alternator seems to not be charging my battery now.
EDIT: I think the tensioner works automatic. I cant seem to tighten it. If anyone knows other wise, please post. So far this is where we are on the car.. DEAD IN THE DRIVEWAY!!!! GRRRRRRRRRR

thanks for the reply!!! We have the belts on but the alternator seems to not be charging the battery.. Any Ideas? No shops are open besides you guys seems to know more than the most of the mechanics anyway!!!
Belts are on the pullys correctly, thats why I was wondering if the tensioner needed set a certain way at first. Im stumped but i dont know that much about the car either

It could be bad battery or bad alternator. You can take the car to any auto parts store (like Autozone), they will test the battery with 'load test' and they will test the alternator as well. Usually they test for free.

yea thats first thing tomorrow.. just have to get her there.. check battery/alternator light stays on.. then under voltage comes on then quickly loses power and dies. SUPPOSEDLY Schaumburg Subaru of Napleton changed that alternator and a part they called a fusable link??? WTF I think they lied. BUT thats not the issue I need it running again =) I'll get them jerks later.. DID we make a common mistake with the belts perhaps???.. They look same as diagrams show though??? sighs.. And thank you for your advice!!!!!!!!!!

Since the car turns over, starts, and the engine dies little later, the belt must've been routed/installed correctly. When you push on the belt, is there more than half an inch of slack on the belt? If no, then I don't think anything is wrong with the belt.
When was the alternator replaced?
By the way, even a brand new alternator can be bad as well; albeit rare.

well if that's the case it isn't the belts... I think it is the alternator.. I have the receipt for the one the STEALER put on on Monday so I am going to start there. Thanks

Have you tested the voltage? With a voltage gauge/multimeter find your battery voltage, then with the car on take another voltage reading. Does the voltage go up? Let us know the two readings.

since I have issues with the sunroof, rear lights, and restraint system, and I suspected the REAR SAM. Could that also cause the alternator/battery issue that I am having? Last day for suggestions before its hauled to a mercedes mechanic =(

Things shut down a little at a time automatically, like blood to the extremities when you are freezing to death.
I mentioned looking up the belt routing in the owners manual.
Do you have an owners manual?
If not, go here or mbsusa to download.

Low voltage causes lots of wierd problems.
