Need some help/opinions!

Hey guys, We currently own a 2009 C300 which my wife drives. I recently sold my BMW and am looking to pick up a used C240.

I live in Hawaii so cars are generally a little more expensive here, but I was wondering if you guys could look at these ads and give me you opinions on which I should look into!!

you should try to find if possible an 05+ model to avoid any of the troubles the earlier models brought.

From what I heard 02 and 03 wasn't a good year for Benz. I know couple of people who owned those years and they haven't had major problems and I know couple of people who had major problems. It is told 06 and 07 year for those body types are the best.

Thanks for the replies! Well to be completly honest I have $10,000 that is disposible at the moment. I'd rather just buy the car outright and not take out any loans, but I guess for that amount of money, I may get stuck with a junker huh?

You can get a nice acura TSX for that amount or maybe even a TL. I was looking into A4 and TSX before getting my w203. TSX has a 2.4L 4cylinder engine but it puts out some hp, believe its 205hp and 166tq.

+1 on the tsx. My friend has one, I was driving in on the freeway. That thing loves to move on higher speeds.

yeah honda engines love to be in the higher rpms especially the S2K. 9k redline is crazy, well that was the redline for the first gen.

Out of the 3 cars you've posted for sale, given your budget is $10K, I would negotiate the first car in your list (2003 C240) down few hundred and it will be within your budget -- assuming carfax report is clean and title is clean.

2003 onward cars were fine. The whole C240 drive train was proven from previous models. My car has required to date from new.

2 X castor bushes under warranty - known issue
1 X 5 cent tranny plug crush washer - minor fluid weep.
1 X RHS brake light lamp.

You will be fine subject to carfax etc. being OK

EDIT - have a friend in KL Malaysia with a 2003 C240 that is approaching 1 million Km without major repair. We have an E240 office taxi in Cape Town that is at 700,000 Km and fine. Both vehicles have run mileage quickly. The C240 platform is not highly stressed. Considered the best model in Europe.

If you like yourself do NOT buy a C240 lol.

The TSX is a sweet car, you can get the 04/05 model in 6spd manual and that has the K24 motor, 2.4 I-4 it is a great motor and very reliable. You can't go wrong.

I gotta go with Glen on this one. I loved that little white C240, it was good car to me. It didn't have the sex appeal of a C230 Sport, but it was reliable, and comfortable.

Hawaii is the ideal place to own a C240. Nothing is far away although they are great cruisers. You are always close to sea level so high altitude power loss is not an issue. It will way outlast a 4 cylinder model. You won't owe anybody any money! Presume you are on Oahu
