Good deal on sunroof lube, 0019895051

MB lube for $20.
PN 0019895051 also known as Dupont Krytox.
I made an offer of $15 and got a reply for 18 + $4 shipping.
This is a great deal, and will help you save your Pano roof from very expensive problems.
See Click here for maint. documentation for your pano.
There are 3 types of lube needed, or according to MB just the 2, but
I use 303 Protectant on the rubber vs. the Krytox, it's much cheaper and keep the rubber nice, and from sticking to the glass.
Save the Krytox for lubing the tracks, and then
there's also some grease you need that can be purchased in
small film canister of "Glietpaste" since it's like 80 for a huge container from MB.
I'd suggest offering $5 or $10 and see what happens. I think he'll come back with a lower offer than
what I got. He's got 2 sealed containers left.
A tube of this stuff from the dealer is like $50.

VW uses it too, and they want like $100.
It's a very special stuff, won't wash off with water.
Hey, if it keeps you from having to spend 2 grand from your
motor or gears getting f'd in the pano, it's well worth the $20.
I paid $10 for a film canister of the special grease.
As far as the rubber tearing, you'll need to glue it back together, I think use
rubber cement.
The body shop that fixed my door, glued up my torn door weatherstripping and it's still holding fast.

Put it on all your rubber stripping.

Is it pure oxirane trifluoro (trifluoromethyl)-homopolymer ?
he he, thats what this stuff is, also known as
Krtyox GPL105.
I think the properties that make it special are,
1. It doesn't melt till like 350C, actually thickens when it gets warm, and our
black pano sunroofs get hot.
2. It's specially designed not wash off.
There's even a warning:
Caution! This product cannot be completely removed using conventional cleaning agents or solvents (or in an automatic car wash).
According to Dupont:
Extends Service Life of critical components. Reduces down time and maintenance costs.
Sunroof repairs so get expensive, and people using some off the shelf crap, it melts and leaks onto the sunshade ruining it.

These pages are filled with tales of Pano roof horror,
and estimates in the thousand to fix.
That being said, i haven't had a problem LATELY, but my entire roof
has been replaced twice under warranty. Hence I have the little wind buffer nub, you can see it in
my sig pic.
I just want to make sure it KEEPS working, I have 166K miles on the car.
Extra strain on the motor can strip the gear and no one sells just the gear.
But one person did come up with a fix, put some washers in, apparently theres some rubber that supports the motor, and it gets mushed down, the gear doesn't engage properly.
Well, I haven't serviced the sunroof for a while.
Need to stop by West marine and pick up some 303.
BTW that keeps it from sqeaking too.
Then I'll have everything I need for proper maint.
One would think silicon would be enough since it dries and leaves little residue etc.
That being said I would buy the silicon with Kytox in it that I posted.
C'mon, someone offer $5 and see what he says.
That would be a great deal.

I have noticed that a lot of the binding happens on the flat pieces that push the deflector up/down. I may put some lithium grease on these since they are not rubber.

I am buying all the lubes listed but wanted to know if you guys could point me in the right direction as to finding the right degreaser to take the bike stuff off. Is there somewhere i shouldn't put the degreaser?
You're probably better of just wiping off the old grease. Maybe use some soap and water.
Use a good silicon spray lubricant to keep your rubber soft and flexible. The Krytox 105 oil would be the best product to use but it's expensive thus should be limited to sunroof lube,.... and any really troublesome noisey rubber seals. Keep in mind silicon spray will last a few months whereas Krytox 105 will last years.

Ha...kidding of course.
My friends owns a detail shop and recommended the 303 protectant.
Seems to work well on rubber seals and keeps it from sticking to the glass, which is the main point,.
so it doesn't strain the sunroof mechanism.

I'd still like to know where to get the other lube(s). One of these days I'l lget around to replacing the bellows on the side of the sunroof - supposedly it's not that difficult?

This avoids stripping the gears when you go to open it after it's been sitting in the hot sun and then cools.
I use Meguiars on the interior. And Lexol on the leather.
Did anyone think I was saying to use 303 on the guides? No.
